Registered 14 years agoCan't try this yet until my replacement touch comes through but...
Turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a wireless trackpad, keyboard and fully customizable remote control for your Mac. -

Can't you just use the (free) Mocha VNC client to do all that? -
Galcon
(As metioned in the recent Penny Arcade editorial) Is a deceptively deep, fast paced space "sim".
Think "Risk" as a coin op, with simplified graphics and touch controls. Lubbly.
Oh, and I see that Google earth is out now, too.
It`s shit. -

How?
Any tutorial would be most appreciated.
Also, why don't any app like this use bluetooth?
It would be nice to be able to do this anywhere, not just within reach of wi-fi. -

Registered 13 years agoAha... :-/
Still, I suppose I could rather quickly set the Mac up to share it's wi-fi with the iPhone, that's what I do for Remote anyway.
But it's still annoying that it's never even an option. -

Download any VNC client for your iPod and enable screen sharing in your Mac preferences. What do you need a tutorial for?

Also if you have a static IP just route the selected port traffic from your router to your Mac and you can control it from wherever your iPod can access the internets. -

Registered 15 years agoThree 'must have' free games. Absolute quality, especially the first two, realling getting the most out of the iPhone...
Trace - Great little game, where you draw a route to safety for a little guy
Jelly Car - Best sound ever! Drive a jelly car to a goal - reminds me a lot of that fantastic contraptions flash game.
Lux Touch - A simplified version of Risk for the iPhone. Very playable.

Galcon is fun right up until the difficulty level where the computer starts cheating and there's simply no way on earth you could ever beat it. I'd get the free version. -

Squeezebox is a network music player, you install it on your Mac/PC/NAS/Linux box and it streams music from that machine. It's compatible with almost every audio format known to man, has lots of plugins for stuff like last.fm, pandora, internet radio streaming and a lovely web interface. It's basically the bollocks, has awesome little DACS in it so it sounds awesome, highly recommended.
I have the Squeezebox 3, that doesn't have the flashy remote, but my iPhone does that now.
Squeezebox 3 / Classic - Standard model with LCD screen on the unit.
Transporter - Audiophile super duper verion.
Squeezebox DuetBasically a Classic sans LCD screen, but with a colour remote to control it from
You can have multiple squeezes, around the house all feeding from the same libarary, they'll even play in sync if you want, which is great for parties
you missed the Squeezebox boom. I've got one in the bedroom, it sounds great.
edit: and have you got iPeng for the iPhone? Very good free remote control for the Squeezebox family -

Registered 14 years agoFor anyone who is into running (or exercise generally) & has an iPhone, I'd like to recommend iTrail and TrailRunner (iTrail is the iPhone app, TrailRunner is a general purpose OSX App that can take input from nikeplus, polar watches, garmin etc etc, as well as the iPhone).
I did my first run with it today and I'm very, very impressed by the bundle. iTrail has some flaws: someone sent me a text midway through the run and this confused iTrail, and me, and I was missing a chunk of my run at the end (note, if I hadn't read the message none of this would have happened). Basically it can't run in the background, like all Apps. I also think the interface isn't as clear as it could be.
TrailRunner however is an absolutely beautiful bit of code. Just lovely. I can't believe it's free (but I will donate to their paypal account once I remember the details). -
