Applications for volunteering ("Games Makers") are open Anyone thinking of doing it? I was seriously considering it, but will probably be studying for a masters at the time the games are on and will unfortunately miss out. |

Registered 17 years agoThe ticket pricing is extraordinary... I'd love to go to a couple of events but it's, well, ludicrously fucking expensive -

Registered 18 years agoI dunno, looks as though you can see some stuff quite cheaply. Finals etc will be pricey but women's volleyball quarters for £30 is pretty good. Even £65 for the Final isn't bad -

Hmm... I can't help but notice that there's no seating plans available anywhere - god only knows where you'd actually be sitting with the £30 tickets.
I've never been to a big sporting event like this, so I'm not sure how much difference it'd make but surely with sport you really need to be able to see what's going on, unlike a concert where the important bit is hearing what's going on...?
Or does it not really matter? -

Now just need to sell it to the missus. She wants to go and watch some gymnastics. I'd feel like a giant paedo -

It will matter and you'll be stuck up in the gods somewhere if it's in the stadium, but much will be about the atmosphere and being part of it all imo -
Sign up here for tickets!
I'm hoping to get some good football tickets

You should be fine - everyone'll be going for the 100 m sprint final to begin with!
I'm tempted to try to head down for some cycling or athletics if I can. I just need my sister to get a larger flat/room for us to stay in as I'm sure all the hotels will be rammed with folk. -

Registered 13 years agoHeh, it was only after a full year that I actually realised the logo said 2012. Up till then I thought it was just random shapes that looked like Lisa Simpson giving a blowjob.
It is the worst logo I have ever seen. -

Going to be putting myself down for a few randoms, but I'm also going to try for the top end (err, or near top end) 100m final tickets - it's something I've wanted to see live as long as I can remember, and with a once in a lifetime opportunity to do it in my own country I feel I can justify it to myself. Err, and the missus.
Although with 50 days to apply I'm not going to panic and do it today, there's still a nagging feeling that the ballot won't quite be fair somehow - it's all been going too smoothly so far...
Anyone else got something lined up? -

Registered 18 years agoWe're going for Archery - maybe one of the knock out days, and then one of the finals - the British team are an outside possibility for a medal (Simon Terry, certainly).
Mrs Boo has just said she'd be up for applying for both the opening and closing ceremonies, even though Coe had just been on the radio saying 'it's a binding commitment and if you get pulled out of the hat for all your applications, you have to pay for them.'
I've subtly reminded her that she'd agreed about ComicCon / California next May, which isn't going to be cheap, but it passed her by.
Anybody know what the deal is with getting the tickets? As far as I know the Olympics are 'proud to tell you to f*ck off if you'ce got the wrong sort of credit card' (they're only taking either Visa or Mastercard, but I can't remember which).
So, if I put in for 4 tickets for a ceremony, on our one Mastercard (assuming that's what it is), and then Mrs Boo applies and pays with my card - if we both get our tickets, do they do this business where you have to have the card with you to get in?
We'd have to split up and take 3 family members each I guess, but only one of us would have the card.
We'd be bloody popular with the family, I know that much... -

Registered 17 years agoSee this is one of the times where I really hate my job. Been told that no one can book any days off during and a month either side of the Olympics until they know what numbers they require which means that we can't even think about applying for tickets. I'm sure the shiny arses at the top will be fine though. -

Registered 18 years agoWe've been told 'they'll look favourably on requests for odd days off here and there, but anyone wanting to book the fortnight off will probably be disappointed'. -
I've signed up for football, tennis, rowing (it's up the road from us), sailing (up the road from daisy's parents) and cycling

Even the countdown clock didn't work properly.
I've made some retarded coding mistakes in my time, but fucking up a simple countdown? Never. -

Registered 18 years agoDon't forget, last chance for ticket applications by midnight tonight. Applied for the cheapest tickets on the 2 most popular days (4/5 Aug) , plus the beach volleyball on the Sat. Fuck it, almost no chance but I know I would have regretted it if I hadn't at least tried! -
Application done - 100m finals evening is the big hope (gone for a wide range of prices, fingers crossed). Got a session of gymnastics and equestrian in for the missus, plus a bit of cycling and the Sat evening athletics too. Will be going for some of the football games at the Millennium too, but happy to assume they won't sell out in the first release.
