Have you ever driven a car on a public road, or read a YouTube comments feed?

Registered 17 years ago@kalel yeah but that's my point; that they can learn to love it, and so can we too.
I generally do think there's a shift in attitudes towards other sports. Granted they will never become as popular as football, but I do think a lot of the interest can be maintained, so long as its supported.
I guess the US NCAA and high-school infrastructure should be whats copied (some aspects of it anyways), the high-schools and unis carry the interest of so many sports, because its integrated into the entire school system. A similar approach should be given to these other sports. Sure waterpolo and freestyle wrestling isn't as big as the top 4 pro sports over there, but its enough to garner more than enough interest.
tbh, I think I'm failing to express my point properly, as I'm rushing because I hate typing on a tablet. -

I doubt it, I think that's football bias talking.
As great as these Olympics were, the football World Cup held here would be even better imo. That's the big one.
a great factor for the feelgoodness is in seeing history and seeing British athletes win. Guys like Mo and Jess, and smaller stories like Gemma in Judo.
Fact is, England would've won squat.
And just like Olympic football, too much tribal vendetta would've come into play, little sportsmanship, just booing. Then the diving.
And that's without he inevitable hooliganism, which probably wouldn't have been big, but there would be pockets of it. -

Registered 20 years agoDoesn't the WC draw bigger TV figures? Pull more tourists in?
The lovely thing about the Olympics (aside from the limited wankers) is the variation. There's pretty something for everyone, and the ability for many countries to win something means that you can get behind someone at some point. -

Also lovely is that as host nation, we got automatic qualification for every event so added incentive to watch all the different sports.

Registered 17 years agoI really think/hope is that more people will have a "secondary" sport to go along with their main ones (like how people do in the US). -

Sounds like that should have been the closing ceremony. -

Registered 20 years ago99% of the Olympic crowd would have had no idea what the tracks were aside from "Song 2" and perhaps "Parklife".
As it was the crowd in Hyde park weren't that clued up on the tracks. Still a decent atmosphere. -
Yes, much better to have George Michael sing a song that literally 100% of the universe don't know. -

That was really strange. Considering his back catalogue of well-known hits, you have to wonder who thought it would be a good idea to play a song off an album that isn't even out yet.
