Oddly I can still drink serious amounts without worry... but I need to be VERY hydrated before I start.

You're cheating if you break the seal before you've started your second pint ;)

Been a while since this thread had any posts, so tonight I had a Thornbridge Tzara 4.8% koln style beer (whatever that entails), and am now on a brewdog Mr. President double IPA at 9.2%.

The Thornbridge was nice and even the brewdog beer is more drinkable than you'd think. That alcohol content is well hidden, but I'm sure I'll feel it like a kick to the plums in due course.

Next up is a whisky, unless this beer kicks in a lot.

Do people in here use Untappd?
I just got a friend request from Dave Bickford...
    a) I don't remember even signing up to this
    b) Is this one of you lot?

I've never quite worked out how Untappd works though a few mates use it. It's not me.

I use it so I can try to avoid beers that I don't like, or to try to avoid buying ones I've had before, but that friend request's not from me either.

Off to the Tewksbury Winter Ale festival tomorrow.

    Hoping to try

    Fownes Korvacs - Demise

    Fownes Korvacs - Downfall

    Hopcraft - Snowball Imperial Stout

Arbor - Devil Made Me Brew It (had it bottled, never cask)

Corinium Imperial - Porter (one off for the festival, hope the Camra lot haven't already drank it all)

    Red Willow - Heartless

Taking a few beers to my friends for a warm-up session tonight to:

Wiper and True - Winter Palace Imperial Stout

Bristol Beer Factory - Ultimate Stout

    Moor - Imperial Entanglement

Arbor / Mezzo Passo - Basta Rosse

I may have picked up too many strong strength stouts.

I'm not sure that's possible. And that's what thirds were invented for. :p

Absolutely love Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout, but never had the pleasure of trying Ultimate Stout.

Is it a special variant of the Milk Stout? :)

I do like their Milk Stout, not entirely sure if this one is related. Will let you know :)

Ale festival was good, some very distinct beers. Think my favorite was the Hopcraft - Snowball Imperial Stout. Very prominent coconut taste with a cocoa aftertaste, undercut by the strong alcohol.

Fownes - Korvac's downfall was incredible too. 9%, but very drinkable. I asked for a third but the possibly drunk server gave me a half, and overfilled by a quarter again....

I have to be honest to, not a great fan of that Bristol Beer Factory Ultimate Stout. Their Milk Stout is indeed nice, but this one didn't have enough going on to balance the strength.

Had three different beers from The Wild Beer Co last night. They really do make some strange stuff!

Not sure if it technically belongs in this thread... But I am rather liking brewdog's Elvis juice.

I think I've had that and liked it. Been seeing a lot more of Beavertown Lupoloid recently which is making its way onto my last of favourite beers.

Forum needs a Craft Beer thread.

Lupoloid's nice eh? Just bought a couple of those on a beer run tonight. I generally like the Beavertown brews, so am sure it'll be nice.

I used to quite enjoy the odd pint of Pride, on pub tours in the capital where that was pretty much the closest thing to a real pint a lot of them had. Nowadays that's mostly been supplanted by Doom Bar which is much more my cup of beer though. Neither of them are even close to being a speciality beer though, the sort should be on at the Albert Court.

I managed to drink one and I didn't fall asleep \o/

It was the original Innes and Gunn and it was alright.

Fairly new to the ale 'game', have just tried various stuff that has been on offer in supermarkets.

Any suggestions? Tried various IPAs and other pale ales. The badger brewery stuff seems ok, although not sure it is technically an ale...

Badger stuff is how I got into all this. Can't fault it really.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything much wrong with badger brews that would disqualify them as ales or beers - it's a pretty loose definition at times, and badger is pretty much in the middle of it. I have grown a little bored of just how predictably reliable their brews are, so I haven't picked up a bottle in a while, but I wouldn't swear them off.

As far as I know, the 'real ale' rules aren't nearly as strict on bottled stuff compared to stuff at the bar - I'd only really swear off cans with widgets in as not being real beer, so anything in a bottle is safe. Maybe I'd also exclude chill filtered stuff, though that's mainly a whisky problem I think.

Holy shit. Drinking a Fierce beer 'Tropical Tart' sour ale and sour is not the word! Felt my cheeks get sucked in and my tastebuds took a right battering, but it's really drinkable once your palate adapts.

A minor triumph given how few sour ales i've ever liked.
