I mean what next...Fawlty Towers 2008 - starring Ricky Gervais? I've not the words - I know telly's running out of ideas, but reviving one of the best Beeb sitcoms with that jug-eared slack-gobbed chump in it just makes my blood boil /shakes fist at sky /vows revenge |
Reggie Perrin returns...as Martin Clunes - O_O

Only slight plus point is that it's the same company that did Peep Show and the mildly funny Star Stories.
Still a travesty.
Some fucker's bound to revive Allo Allo at some point n'all. With Johnny Vegas as Renee -

George Clooney: Hello! Miss Jones.
Miss Jones: I think I've just cum. -

Registered 16 years agoJesus. When was the last series revival that actually worked? it's been long enough for me not to be able to remember, dr who I guess.
How can anyone with enough cynicism and dark humour in them to love this series enough to actually want to remake it then be imbecilic enough to actually go through with it. -

Registered 16 years agoPresumably they're not remaking it for anyone who saw the original, but for a new generation. -

Registered 17 years agoI don't think it can possibly work, but I do think that, once the rather sacrilegious decision has been made to do this, Clunes is a reasonable choice for Perrin.
Yes, it's wrong. Yes, it's unnecessary. Yes, we didn't get where we are today by running round willy-nilly remaking classic shows for no good reason - but if we have to accept this travesty, who would you put in the starring role? -

Registered 14 years agoAdam Buxton or Simon Pegg as Reggie; Matt Berry as CJ (or Chris Morris, but then were getting into IT crowd territory), Jessica Stephenson as his wife....?? -

Registered 16 years agoBuxton or Pegg would have been better. Clunes is likely to come off just angry. -

Registered 13 years agoWhy they're bothering to re-make it when they could just re-run it (it's not as if it has any special effects that need updating - I'm sure the footage of a hippo that was used every time Reggie's mother-in-law is mentioned still looks like a hippo). I guess the new controller thinks a modern audience needs to see modern version. Clearly she's from the "If it ain't broke, rip it to bits and replace with all new parts" school of thinking.
Clunes was perfect for Men Behaving Badly, but for Reggie's character I think Martin Freeman would be a much better choice. -

Registered 13 years agoutterly unnecessary.
but, if I have to think about it, then Clunes is ok I suppose, but he & all these suggestions are just too young IMO
the guy they have playing CJ appears to be the aggrophoic from Game On ffs!!! far too young.
I'm trying to think of someone better but my mind fills with rage every time I consider it. -

Clunes is 48. Leonard Rossiter was 50 when he started filming the ones from the '70s. -

Would that be the old Matt or the new Matt from Game On? Not that it matters, either would be wrong. I agree with milhous that Chris Morris would be a great choice. However, he probably wouldn't touch it with a barge poll. -

Presumably Geoffrey Whitehead is going to be CJ. -
Reggie Perrin was shite when it came out, it'll be shite again when remade...
