European Ryder Cup team confirmed this evening: Padraig Harrington (Ire) Lee Westwood (Eng) Sergio Garcia (Spa) Henrik Stenson (Swe) Robert Karlsson (Swe) Miguel Angel Jimenez (Spa) Graeme McDowell (N Ire) Justin Rose (Eng) Soren Hansen (Den) Oliver Wilson (Eng) Ian Poulter (Eng) Paul Casey (Eng) US team: Phil Mickelson Steve Stricker Stewart Cink Jim Furyk Anthony Kim Kenny Perry Justin Leonard Ben Curtis Boo Weekley Hunter Mahan Chad Campbell JB Holmes Casey was a shoe-in for a wildcard given his form in the US this season, but Poulter is the big suprise after his average season, arrogant attitude to the selection and with Clarke winning last week and bags of Ryder Cup experience. I guess you could argue that with the US team looking extremely weak this year, it's an opportunity for a young European team to get an easy victory under their belts and gel with 2010 in mind. Monty obviously was never going to get in - particularly once Faldo realised Monty was only 2 points behind Faldo's record total of 25 |

Registered 17 years agoYeah, Iwas surprised at Poulter as well, but to be fair, if he's on his game, he's got the skills to match his mouth. -

It's very VERY well made and absolutely gorgeous! If you're after something to commemorate this year's event, or actually use it, it's well worth the money IMO. -

Unfortunately, I don't share your thoughts on a USA win. Their team is really poor (they didn't have much to choose from), and even if they had Tiger to choose, he's not really a fourball player.
I think Europe will walk it, by some distance. Which is unfortunate because it's important for the competition for the USA to be in contention, otherwise the (US) public will grow disinterested.
Quite surprised at Poulter's inclusion, but I'm glad that arrogant ignorant big-moobed cunt Montgomerie wasn't picked. -

Excellent. Won a couple of weeks back and hitting top form...unlike that tit Poulter. -

Hmmm, that's a shame. Well, Poulter had better play bloody well is all I can say

Leading for a lot of the Johnnie Walker. Good form generally throughout 08. Bit of a surprise not to be called up, particularly after last time. -

I'd love us to win convincingly... But I think the US team will surprise a lot of people. -

Merlinho - you are looking a bit pale, so I'd go home early this afternoon and stay away from the office tomorrow, just to be sure

Registered 19 years agoIt's on the guardian front page. He denied it first but then accepted it. Garcia and Westwood, Harrington and Karlsson then underneath that are Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell and Paul Casey, underneath that are Oliver Wilson, Soren Hanson and Miguel Angel Jimenez. For some reason Henrik Stenssons name wasn't there.
Stupid mistake from Faldo though. -

Ahhhh, I see.
Hmmm, might have to see if that works in the office. Only trouble is, I've heard rumours that our IT department is monitoring staff internet activity because someone discovered that A LOT more bandwidth is being used than is necessary ...
