    @brokenkey

    4 people weren't very well the next day - Megapocalypse, my other half, Inquisitor and someone else. I think 3 of them had the Thali (so did I actually, but I was fine).

    Inquisitor was apparently fine by the time lunchtime rolled around, whereas Alex didn't start feeling ill until that point, which is why he didn't come to the after party on Saturday with us. I think Mega was suffering from the morning on though. Not sure who the other bloke was; Zomoniac knows.

    No complaints about the food personally - admittedly I wasn't expoing on the Saturday so had a bit of a lie-in before the party, but I was fine and it was plenty of tasty while I was eating it. But yeah, service was pretty atrocious, and if others are vetoing that place I'll join the fray.

    As Iggy says though, for curry options round earls court it's just that place and the original place we tried which we vetoed cos the food was awful. I guess given Earl's Court is on the tube though, we're not limited to just the immediate locale - just bagsy no trekking all the way over to Brick Lane.

    This might be an unpopular opinion, but we could always try a different cuisine next year - Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese etc. All of those have spicy dishes for those people who are particularly interested in testing their chilli mettle.

    Admittedly we would have to rename the thread :)

    Like I said though, I had no problem with the food personally and thought it was pretty lovely. I was thinking more of the poor blighters that suffered, especially my other half. Was quite concerned about him as he ended up having to call it a day on Saturday by lunchtime and spent the rest of the day suffering on the hotel bed from his stomach doing somersaults.

    I like to consider myself fairly adventurous when it comes to food, but no way in hell would I be up for squid guts.

    Sushi on the other hand...

    Unless you meant you tried to eat JinTypeNoir.

    Renaming the thread is not an option. This is the EG Curry Club damn it!

    If people would just prefer a Thali-type menu then we can always go back to the place on Earls Court Road next year.

    I don't care what kind of food it is, so long as it's not vegetarian :-)

    Back to work today. Meh! :-(

    @Ignatius_Cheese was that the place we went to in 2011? If so that wasn't very nice at all.

    @darkmorgado Well, perhaps you would like to organise it next year?

    I'm not sure I want that responsibility on my shoulders! Personally I'm happy where we've been the last couple of years, but between the dodgy tummies this year, the bad service and the questionable bill total I'd imagine many would feel differently. I was just sounding out possible ideas. It's not like we're in any sort of rush to make a decision on it ;)

    Didn't really have a problem with the service or the bill total. Food was good. Happy to go back next year.

    Well I certainly thought that £32 was pretty good, all things considered. I just know that there was some disagreement about the bill from what I overheard when I came back from my cigarette.

    Ample beers + big curry + walking around an expo all weekend and people are surprised they got the shits?

    *confused face*

    Yeah, just that they wanted a tip, or service charge and Iggy was quite rightly in disagreement.

    I do find it amusing we had similar issues last year and we all managed to forget by the time this Expo rolled around... So Indian Seasoning again next year then yeah? :D

    It was 12.5% service wasn't it?

    Leaving aside the fact that they are supposed to be optional anyway, it's slightly higher than the standard percentage unless things are different in London from elsewhere.

    We did - that's what the argument was about.

    It was something like 2 hours before we got our food wasn't it?

    I would vote DM organise it - He seems to have plenty to say on the subject - albeit from a distance....

    Yeah something like that. Was pretty ridiculous. A couple of us did have starters though. I know I did. That probably delayed the mains coming out for a bit, though even then an hour is bit steep, let alone 2!

    Just as well none of us ordered dessert or we'd probably still have been there come the morning.

    Am I right in understanding that there was some debate as to whether or not the drinks had been tallied correctly? I think someone said there were a few occasions where stuff came out that hadn't been ordered or something.

    @Zizoo

    Well I think Tom took one of the drinks bill. It was on the last page. I believe there were a couple taken at the pub meet the following night as well.

    Isn't it standard practise to add on service for large groups vs. leaving the tip up to the customer - so quite a rare / strong position to take to ask for it to be removed - particularly serving over 20 people?

    Ah, that bloody bill. Havin' a laugh.

    @Youthist

    I thought it was more standard practice to include discounts for group bookings. Plus aside from two other small tables which weren't there very long, we were their only business for the whole night. Given that, the massive delays in getting the food out and the debate as to whether or not the drinks bill was even accurate, I can see why Iggy would have taken umbrage with it.

    Now that Tom mentions it, I do recall there being a similar thing last year.

    No, it is definitely normal to add a service charge on (10 -15 per cent) automatically for groups that are 8+ (sometimes 6+ or so), and not to expect any tip on top of that.

    Yes but it's also normal to serve the food within 2 hours of it being ordered.

    Photos

    The food delay is good for the restaurant, as they keep on serving booze. Stop buying more beer, if you want the food to turn up faster.

    I think everyone on our table ordered a starter. It wasn't 2 hours from arriving to starter was it?
