OoooOOOoo nice. To be fair, the 5D is more camera than I need anyway, but at least they've come out with a true upgrade to it.

Yup. Video is 1080p with stereo sound and a mic socket so it's trumped the D90 on that score though at higher cost of course. Key question of course is does the ISO performance match the D3/D700 sensor...

Will be getting, relegating my current 5d to back up status and my 20d to ebay. Not fussed about the video, would rather have it cheaper. Also really annoying that it has non compatible batteries with the 5 and 20d!

No pop-up flash but I guess most people buying this will trigger their off-camera units with a Pocket Wizard.

pop up flash is shite. You don't buy a £2k+ camera and use pop up flash. It's got a silent shooting mode - cool.

Agreed, but I use mine to remotely trigger my SB-600.

Ah right. In that case how do you prevent the flash from the pop-up interfering with the subject?

I've got a infra-red transmitter add-on that triggers my lighting cost about £40.

here comes the junk mail - already. Warehouse Express are selling the 5D MKII for £2299 and you get a free bag and an 8gb CF card thrown in.

On the D200 at least you set the built-in flash to work in Commander mode. On the menu screen for that, you can tell it not to fire for the exposure, only to fire just before exposure to trigger the off-camera flashes.

How are they? eBay triggers? I've read many things about these, but it seems to me that eventually the low cost is off-set by the less-than-stellar reliability. I think I'm gonna save up for a set of Pocket Wizards.

No not ebay. It's made by a company called Interfit. The model is INT411 IRX infra red trigger, if you want to google it. Used it for about 9 months and it triggers the lights above 95% of the time. So pretty good for £40.

Why have canon and nikon decided that we all need 1080p video support in a stills camera? Just focus on making the standard lenses better and build in faster SLR response times. Do they have a native 16/9 film back yet?

They should make a Canon 5d MKIIV video version and Canon 5D MKII non-video version. That would make sense but they won't though will they.

I still can't get over the price. I realise that is the standard price for the 5D at launch, but the US>UK conversion is just obscene.

Well I don't know if the £2299 is an official price, it might be Warehouse Express jumping the gun. The $2699 price is an estimate though, so nothing is confirmed.

I'm pretty certain I'll be buying it from Hong Kong via a guaranteed no import tax ebay company. Always better priced than the UK.

Fair enough. I wonder when reviews will start appearing, I'd like to know if they've matched or even surpassed the sensor quality of the D3/700.

Yeah. And who's spending 3 grand on a camera that would be interested in "face detection" ffs?
  • Deleted user 17 September 2008 10:04:27
Have you seen 'smile detection' yet? It takes a photo when it detects smiles on all faces.

I shit you not. Can't remember where I saw it.

Have you seen 'camera detection' yet? It makes human women pout and put their heads together every time they see a camera.

    I shit you not.

    extensive hands on here

    MkII

Sounds awesome. I liked this bit..

"This new sensor is said to be based on that of the EOS-1Ds Mark III (indeed it has exactly the same pixel count) but has several small changes, the hint being that it's actually slightly better."

Hmm. Only one CF card slot. D3 has two, which is a definite advantage

It's not review. But if the sensor is as good if not better than the 1Ds MkIII then it will knock the D700 out with a clean blow to the chin and take on the D3.

Take into account all it's extra features, (some wanted, some not) and that it is going to be approx £600 cheaper than the D3, then its going to be a right ding-dong battle.

The new 5D MKii battery grip has wireless capabilities, load images straight to a ftp. Zoinks that is good news.

Are you sure that's a battery grip though? It doesn't have a battery connector thing, I thought it was just an add on for wireless
