Will have a proper play around with it at the weekend, but do any of you guys have any tips / tricks on getting the best out of it? (I'm looking at you in particular deem) |

Registered 18 years agoThere should be a button on the top right. Usually it clicks in and you can get a really detailed painting of what you see when you look through the square hole on the back. It's pretty nifty. -

Is it your first DSLR or what? What level of experience do you currently have? Presumably you know a bit having bought a 5D Mk II? -

Can't help you to be honest, as all I've done with it so far is video.
The results I've had so far with the few shots I've taken have not been up to the standards of the mark 1, so I have lots to do to get used to it.
I have over 100 bars to shoot in the next 4 months, so I hope I'll get to grips with it pretty bloody quickly. -

It's my second - first one was a much loved 20d. I know my way around an SLR, but don't really get into things like post-processing RAW files etc
@deem - it was the video bit I wanted to pick your brains about (saw the videos you posted)
for example - how limiting is the lack of manual aperture control and autofocus ? -

Registered 17 years agoErm, can't you figure that out by actually trying it? This is the sort of thing you ask before buying one

Registered 13 years agoI will do, but I'm a bit a bit of a noob when it comes to video - so it would be nice to get some tips from someone with a bit of experience.
The main reason I bought it is for stills use - which I'm totally comfortable with -

Registered 16 years agoFirmware 1.1 is now out - manual controls for video. Which has turned the video into excellent quality but fudged into excellent quality and awesome. -

Registered 16 years agoUsed a 5D Mk II on a film shoot yesterday with a steadycam style jobby and follow focus unit and it is awesome quality for the price.
What kind of PC have you got Neverness? My Mac Mini doesn't seem to have any trouble, but I haven't done much with them yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play over the weekend. -

I have an aging PC but it has done me proud considering I built it. It is an Athlon X2 4200, 2 gig ram, ATi x1950 and other stuff like windows 7. Not great I admit but I have only just started having a problem with videos.
This one http://www.flickr.com/photos/ajohns/4263015902/ which I did as my first test works fine, but new ones dont. The sound is fine and plays normally, but the image jumps frames all the time.
I have tried a fix by using the VLC player and editing the setting but that just fails completly. To be fair though I dont really have that much interest in the admitedly fantastic video anyway so I could just use the lower quality setting until I upgrade the PC. -

Registered 12 years agoBloody hell. Apparently the entire last episode of the latest season of House was filmed on a 5D II. Impressive. -

Philip Bloom has posted the Twitter Q&A with the director about the use of the 5D.

I was more surprised that the show is usually filmed on 35mm film. I always thought it was just HD video. -

Unfortunately the video quality isn't great, but it still looks pretty impressive. -

Registered 20 years agoThanks Dave, will definitely be interesting to watch that episode.
Thinking about getting a Mk II for the summer festivals and sell my bloody 1D Mark III if I can find anyone who wants it. -
