Funcoms Gaute Godager announced earlier today that he'll be leaving Funcom as "... I'm not entirely satisfied with parts of Aoc". Former Anarchy Online director (since 2004) will take over.

This isn't a very surprising move from Gaute Godager. Since the release of AoC, Funcom shares have decreased with 80% in value (although they've increased with 10% since the announcement of Gaute leaving), and analysts estimate only around 150 000 players are currently subscribing to the game, with a 33% decrease in subscribers expected within the next 3 months.

They should finish their games before they release them then. That game had so much potential, if only they released it in as solid state as WAR is in right now.

I agree, AoC was far from finished when it was released. I think the hype got to them and decided, wrongly, that the time for release had come. I think it would've been better for Funcom to have waited to next spring before releasing AoC, as they'd have a chance to finish it with another year in production.
    Hindsight is always easy, though.

what annoys me is that publishers will decide "adult themed mmo's cant be successful" when they should be saying "unfinished, unbalanced mmo's will not retain users"

I think this is going the same way as Tabula Rasa esp. when Warhammer & the WOW patch/expansion is out.
