I find the bridge crew thing a bit annoying as well, they've gone to the trouble of giving them various augments and making them look interesting without any real payoff yet. The main cast is more generic than the extras.

I'm just itching for some sciencey technobabble, I need it so bad now. It's like I've quit smoking and I'm doing for a fag. It's so frustrating to have a star trek back on telly without any exploration and sciencish bollocks.

Get me four heads around a console or six around a ready room table, I keep saying it but that's what we need

I demand a simple explanation of solving big science problems. Like putting too much air into a baloon or sending the Borg to sleep.

Also - what is Clem Fandango's character called? I just shout his name every time he appears. Terrible casting.

Is there a break now for a few weeks? I read something about it being in two parts but can't find it now.

I had to look who Clem Fandango was. I've no problem with casting, I'd hazard it's more your inability to move past an actors previous role.

That Klingon woman's attempts to deceive her own people were spectacularly inept.

"Hey guys look she's escaping - honest!"

    "Look guys I killed her!"

"D'oh turns out she did escape. After I killed her. Anywayz can I be promoted into your circle of trust now? Just forget about the fact that's 2 senior Starfleet prisoners I've lost already.."

    New episode

Early in the episode, I felt DSC was continuing its upwards trend, but then it went downhill pretty soon... with the Kol showdown and subsequent destruction of the ship, DSC is obviously copying from the movies, which in itself is ok... but I thought it felt extremely slow, tired, listless, insignificant. I can't put my finger on it, it felt really weird. The music didn't seem to fit either. Confusingly anticlimactic.

As far as I'm concerned, it's back to the lower level of the first episodes.

    Discovery episode 9

A much lower key resolution to the main series arc than I was anticipating. Like after all that it was just 'yeah, done, move on'. I was expecting a show down much closer to the series opening double-bill. Lorca doing a Picard and becoming more human rather than spiraling into 'do whatever it takes' madness like I thought he was destined to is a big factor in that.

Obviously the 90s series, mainly TNG, were pretty notorious for having double bills where the resolution occurs five minutes into part two and the rest of the episode fizzles out but I thought the cinematic scope Discovery has shown would have given us a bigger showdown.

    Two questions I'm left with:

Did anyone else think the nude Klingon looked bit like the alien from Species

And is the set up for the next episode/season now Sliders meets Voyager?

Lorca did say "We're going home" just before you saw him put in the co-ordinates for the jump. That was in the same episode he made it clear he knew he was keeping scans of the network and how you could use it to travel to alternate universes. It definitely all ties in to the theory he is from the Mirror Universe, and he is home now.

I enjoyed the episode :) Now for the wait until 2018 for the next episode.

@DFawkes Where does the mirror universe theory come from? Is it just uncharacteristically aggressive for Starfleet behaviour?

Lorca having a room of secret weird things, some scars that resemble those left by pain-stick things from previous Mirror Universe episodes and his general attitude.

It's not my theory though, so there are better people to discuss it with. I'm not 100% sure either way.

Interesting. I think that might be a bit of a reach since this show feels like it's in soft reboot territory and it wouldn't be very casual friendly to be leaning on Easter eggs in the lore like that but I guess we'll see.

    Yaay! Klingon boobies!

Also Lorca is a cunt, he knew he couldn't go back to the starbase without losing his ship. He fucked Staments to save his sorry ass

So Lorca jumped them to a universe where the things are different,
maybe the Klingons have won (or were winning) and he switched universe to find a weapon to defeat them (Think crazy-beard-riker from the episode where many enterprise's from different universes appear). The possibilities are pretty endless, but if they Rick & Morty'd out of their original universe I hope they at least finished sending the cloak detection code to Star Fleet.

Have they given a reason why we have to wait until next year for episode 10?
  • Deleted user 14 November 2017 00:59:14
Split seasons are fairly common on US TV, especially on the old networks like CBS, NBC etc...

Yeah but ten weeks for a single episode?

Although I suppose now that the main arc seems to be over for the time being I guess it'll serve as a pilot of sort for their new Rock & Morty adventures

It's tradition for some reason. All the old treks did it too.

They certainly never did it with them on BBC 2.

I'm pretty sure Sky 1 had them first. I definitely remember watching Season 7 on Sky 1 as it came out over here at least.

BBC 2 followed by Wayne's World or Ren & Stimpy except when Wimbledon came along to ruin things
