Musk would totally be creating horrible weapons with dire unintended consequences during a period of total war

He'd be Mengele-ing in a lab, taking people apart to see how humans work

I noticed something in discovery the other day while I was rewatching it. Lorna at one point was mentioning great physicists/inventors and he mentioned elon musk in there. In the star trek timeline, the third world war was in the 1990's.

I don't really care but it is kind of jarring, not going to write an angry fan letter, but try to be consistent in the same universe.
Nah World War 3 was later wasn't it? First Contact talks about it being 2020s or something. Eugenic wars were in the 1990s that led to Khan I think?

Tbh the whole World War 3 timeline is super confused.

Yeah, WWIII is what the world is recovering from in First Contact

At the very least, it's after 2024 - the year of the Sanctuary Districts in that DS9 episode. Watched that ep again a few months ago. Felt spookily relevant to present worries.

Edit: Past Tense is the double parter.

@The12thMonkey it's a great episode(s), that shows what Trek is about without space battles and the like!

it's a great double parter but the leader of the gang is so ridiculously edgy 90s, down to the long hair and hat. like a reject from a grunge band.

Sorry, apparently the timeline was retconned later to be in the 2050's, but originally was in the nineties. I was kind of right though. Star Trek timeline has been confused to many times

    Insanely, scarily relevant

I see that nu trek 4 is in the bin over actors pay. Good to be honest. They had 2 trash films and 1 that barely passed for star trek. Hopefully they skip the lot and focus on the TV shows.

Return to film when there's a decent idea for it.

I don't mind them as films but they're not Trek. If it turned out they were part of the MCU it would make as much sense as anything.

But, but Tarantino!! People would go watch that, more so than the other ones (the highest grossing one STITD did well in large part due to a hot property at the time, Cumberbatch! So hopefully the studio know it will make a deal with Pine and Thor.

I know Trek isn't really a story told best in film, but it's always something to get excited about!

I don't get nerd rage often, but Abrams fucking around with the proper Trek universe as part of his job application to direct Star Wars pissed me off. Hopefully they'll ignore that in the future.

So now I've finished TNG season 5, which was... disappointing. On average, not better than season 2 in my opinion. Fewer shit episodes, but also fewer great ones, on the whole almost as forgettable as a season of Voyager.

TNG continues to be not as good as I remember it, or rather, too rarely being so. It's a very uneven show, quality bounces up and down like some really bouncy thing. I hope s6 will be better, from what I hear I shouldn't expect anything from s7.

Apart from the last double episode, season 7 is a bit run-of-mill. Is 'Below Decks' a good episode?; I can't remember! I do remember that 'Sub-Rosa' is so bad it's popcorn worthy!

TNG never fully settles down but it's all about the crew anyway and they've a cosy familiar bunch.

Watched the DS9 where Dax solves a murder with her forbidden former self. All those seasons as Jadzia and Ezri gets the best Dax episode.

@DrStrangelove 6 is good but yeah, I tng varies wildly in quality but it's always trying something. At its best it's unbeatable

Season 7 is a weak season, I agree. Mainly because every other episode is about a crew members family, to the point where it becomes really noticeable. There's still some great episodes in there, though.

Season 6 is fantastic though if I remember right.

Mostly agree, although if I recall correctly, DS9 managed to even raise the bar a little higher. I'll see soon enough.

It's that thing, about good TV being time spent in good company - the TNG crew are certainly the best bridge crew ever - I want to hang out with them! DS9 is a better series but stuff chilling with Dax, Odo, Kira and Sisko (alright beers with Bashir and O'Brien, Quark serving, would be hilarious).

So apparently there are two new shows coming, one called ST: Destiny and the other ST: Reliant.

Seems the former will be the Picard one and the other is unknown, but I hope it's not another fucking prequel.
