Lorca was indeed brilliant and would have been an excellent addition to a post-Dominion War Starfleet, which is slowly turning into a bunch of bitter bastards.

As for the probe/ Red Angel. I don't want it to be any of the following...

    - Borg
    -Temporal Cold War
    - Xindi
    - Michael Burnham/ Spock

    I will accept the following

    - Kes
    - Q
    - Guinan

I prefer Handsome Pike to Lorcan.

I'd be happy if the mirror universe was quietly never brought up again.

I reckon it is Laxwana Troi. She saw a picture of Pike and decided to cross time and space for him. Season 2 will end with a btich fight between Vina and Her.

I forced myself to watch a bit more last night.

The fact that they revived the doctor sums the poor writing in this up perfectly. They killed him for a GoT style twist, only to bring him back half a dozen episodes later in the most ridiculous way. I literally laughed out loud when he flopped out of that mushroom shit pipe teleporter. All because his fella gave him a little kiss. They can kill anyone now and I won't give a shit because they'll just magic them back into existence using the magic mushroom kingdom that can do anything the plot needs it too. It's as bad as the black goo in Prometheus.

Complete nonsense. I'm sorry to keep shitting on it in this thread, but it is 90% absolute pap. I only went back because it's Star Trek and I heard the writing had got better. It's just as shit as in the first series, they've not learned.

Actors, sets, vfx are all amazing. The scripts and overall plot are shockingly bad. Everything happens at 100 miles an hour, then is waved away without a seconds thought. For instance, the second episode had potential, with the theme of faith vs reason. Staple Star Trek stuff, yet nothing had time to breathe because HEY LETS DO DOUGHNUTS IN A STARSHIP ROFL.

If DSC is anything to go by, this Picard show is going to be an absolute shambles.

I will refrain from discussing DSC now though, before I rightly get told to shut up and do one.

I am entertained, as an outsider, when I see OG Star Trek fans have a meltdown about Discovery.

From my perspective, the writing has never been good in any Star Trek and it's always been pap, but watchable and inoffensive.

You need to stop pretending like all of the series previous were some holy grail of TV.

So with DS9 finished I have completed my Trekathon. Here are the correct scores (all out of 10):

    TOS
    S1 - 8.5
    S2 - 8
    S3 - 6

    TAS
    All - 7

    TNG
    S1 - 6.5
    S2 - 7.5
    S3 - 8
    S4 - 8.5
    S5 - 7.5
    S6 - 8.5
    S7 - 7

    DS9
    S1 - 8
    S2 - 8.5
    S3 - 8
    S4 - 9
    S5 - 9.5
    S6 - 9
    S7 - 8.5

    VOY
    S1 - 7
    S2 - 7
    S3 - 7
    S4 - 7
    S5 - 7
    S6 - 6.5
    S7 - 7

    ENT
    S1 - 6
    S2 - 6
    S3 - 7
    S4 - 8

    DSC
    S1 - 5

DSC S2 is still running of course, but so far it seems quite an improvement to me, in 6 or maybe even 6.5 territory.

Red Angel might be Airiam IMO. I don't think it would be someone not introduced in the series yet. But that time virus thing be fucking with her.

    @DrStrangelove Nice list.

I remember watching TNG onwards 'live', now 20+ years later have researched some for the first time and find I like certain bits more and others less.

You didn't think Voyager improved? Other than the obvious reasons I thought the intro of 7 was great for the show. Even if it became a Dr, 7 and captain show.

Am rewatching series 2 and 3 of TNG and it's better than how I remembered it.

    @jrmat

I'm not a great fan of Seven, sure she introduced a few interesting things but brought other problems. One is that about 30% of character episodes were about her, another is that her "becoming human" development line suffers from VOY's infamous reset button too. She makes one or two steps in an episode, then afterwards it's just forgotten and she makes the same steps in another episode again. And then again. Ugh. Also, to my displeasure Tuvok was sidelined at the same time.

Some things are better, others worse, but in terms of overall enjoyment I found VOY pretty much the same from start to finish, except for season 6 which felt especially fatigued.

I'm genuinely surprised by that. The mrs and the girl are working through voyager at the moment and I can confirm that first two seasons are sheeeeiiiitttte.

It starts to pick up in season 3, peaks at 4 and then gets meh again.

    The Borg kids.... ugh....

I'm midway through season three of Voyager and I'm digging it. It doesn't really have any big highs but it doesn't really have any deep lows either.

Pretty convenient that Voyager was displaced in time and space and ended up in 1996 Los Angeles.

I'd completely forgotten Sarah Silverman was in this and some fine George Clooney looking disguise work.

Very nice seeing Windows 95 style graphics pervade all.

Speaking of people in things - Nigel Havers was considered for Janeway before they settled on female.

Imagine everything exactly the same but it's Nigel Havers in the chair

Good ep this time. Frakes directing again, just get him to direct them all please.

Some character development, suspense, plot, twists leaving you wanting more. Still please try of clichés and annoyances, it's no where near a great show, but this is definitely one of the better episodes. Will leave it completely spoiler free until more have seen it.

There's something a little too grounded about Frakes direction. Not that I don't like what he does, but he's prone to occasional naffness. This might have been the naffest I've seen from him, but seeing as most of it had everyone behind a desk, playing chess or pootling about in CGI there isn't much he could work with.

Really not enjoying anything about Burnham. The way she's written, the actress, the delivery, her struggles or her personality. Guff.

Yeah, I guess the problem with centering on one character so much is that unless that character is great then the whole show will suffer and that's arguably the case here.

Sure, Frakes isn't the best director in the world, but his episodes have been amongst the best and I think this episode would have been poor to average without him.
