Even less viewers would know wtf Vger was.

They were brave making the film the total opposite of Star Wars and it still looks beautiful - I love the glacial pace, but it's more of an acquired taste after years of repeat viewing. I saw WoK in theatres so that was my favourite for many years, but the original movie is probably my fave too these days with some age on me and the films.

Probably alone, but I'm getting kinda sick of the lovesick storyline bits.

I can't remember this much romance in any of the other Trek series.

Rewatching Motion Picture for the first time in about 20 years. I forgot how fucking slow it is. I'm over an hour in and half the movie has been slow pans across CGI shots. My god you do wonder how audiences reacted to it at the time and how they ever managed to make more movies.

It was quite obviously aping 2001, so it wasn't unprecedented. Wise directed other excellent SF films that have the same 'glacial' pace, such as The Andromeda Strain.

It made sort of money but not mega money, which is why WoK was made by Paramount's TV arm on the cheap. All of the subsequent TOS trek films were bargain basement, comparatively. TMP was the only time TOS was dun epic.

TMP is still my favourite Trek movie despite its shortcomings, but that's kind of to expected given that in my opinion 2001 is the greatest sci-fi film of all time. That even has only three lines of dialogue or so.

Can't remember a lot of that one to be honest. Aside from the Ferengi and their porn VR.

DS9 had a habit of intermingling its characters. Jadzia with Worf, Rom with Leeta, Kira first with some other Bajoran guys then Odo. Sisko and Yates. Bashir tries to flirt with Jadzia and Kira and basically any female character ever in the show. Ezri first engages with Worf, then with Bashir. Quark has one or two romances, Jake too. O'Brien has an almost-romance with Kira even though he's married. Dukat constantly tries to flirt with Kira and actually had something with her mother. And so on.

And it had a super intelligent robot in the body of bald lady with high heels!

I re-watched it recently and it did not disappoint, great film.

@DarmokJalad it was Kai Wyn, the evil witch.

Just watched Discovery episode 13 and loved it.

New episode.... let's just say we predicted all this.

Looks like they are going to remove Discovery and Michael from the TOS timeline, they just need Spock to stay behind next episode. I guess they will end up in the far future and, next season, will have to "enable" the last remaining red signals in this timeline. I would be more impressed if they use this time travel stuff to spend a season in ALL the other Star Trek series :) Who knows, maybe they go back to the far past and have to survive in a galaxy without changing the future.

@Dizzy I've not seen the new one yet but I really hope they do jump into the 90s Treks Trials and Tribble-ations style

TBH I still think Control is Borg tech or Mirror Universe tech... so I guess that might be the teaser for season 3.

TBH I would quite like it if they, somehow, manage to slot in this series without "damaging" the TOS timeline. Could be a stroke of genius. Changin timelines is easy, keeping them is quite hard.

There was also the sadly nixed Garak as pan-sexual.

Borg tech from the crashed sphere is acceptable.

    Origin of Borg is not.

Why doesn't discovery just jump really far away, the spore drive has a range of 50,000 light years right? Jumping to the other side of the Galaxy seems like a more reasonable soluntion that a one way trip through time.

I get it though, you need a plot for the third series. Discovery trekking around the 32nd century looking for a time crystal whilst sending red signals back through time will make for interesting viewing. Hell, we might even see more of the guy in Calypso Looks like we're getting the future trek show we've been asking for after all lol
