Started to rewatch S1 of TNG. It's somehow worse than I remembered.

Still, good to see the forward thinking and progressive values of Trek upheld by the totally-not-African-caricatures in Code of Honour.

Was Danny Baker was on the writing team?

Code of Honor is the worst.

That whole first season of TNG is pretty iffy but that's probably because a lot of it is made up of Star Trek Phase 2 scripts that would have been a closer follow up to TOS.

Bless. There's no way all those references weren't deliberate.

The lead in Discovery is so bad. She is a horrible actress. Not sure I can muster finishing season 2.

She's not the only problem though. I'm hard-pressed to name a single aspect of Discovery that isn't complete wank. Special effects and set design are quite nice. Action scenes are decent from what I can remember. Some of the episode concepts are OK. The alien designs are more interesting than the old Trek humanoids with slightly different face ridges. Frustratingly bad show overall though.

So the new show is called...

    Star Trek Picard

Does what it says on the tin I suppose. Quite like it

Series 2 has some really good points
    - capt pike, who is a total dreamboat
    - Saru's episode and Saru in general
    - tig notaro
    - some pretty good action set pieces
    - Spock being surprisingly good
    - a general attempt at getting to know the wider cast

Everything else is utter guff though. Burnham is by far the worst thing and I just cannot understand how she was A) written as the lead and B) SMG given the role. Her entire red angel plot was drivel. That ending...eurgh. hand waving to the extreme.

It's telling that the best episodes have either been standalone or directed by Jonathan Frakes.

Into Voyager season five. The advanced futuristic super drone looks terrible.

From watching TNG and its spin-offs from the beginning the Borg rarely get to look like the unfeeling menace that they are conceived to be. They're always being humanised or cut off from the Collective or in some way disarmed.

So, Star Trek Picard has a logo

    Image here

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D6om4fWW0AE_xa2.jpg:large

    He looks pooped.

    and another image

    He looks lonely.

Going back to something similar to the TNG era uniforms is interesting. Better than the blue ones from the TNG movies I suppose.

The uniforms suggest between TNG and start of Dominion War. Unless they drop the grey once the war ends and they don't need to look as militarised.

Being on Prime sucks. I don't want another subscription to another TV services.

If it helps there some decent stuff on Prime. Probably worth the one off payment to watch everything on it and then not resub. Man in the high castle especially. Also Good Omens adaptation starts in a couple of weeks!

I have prime. It's got X Files, Buffy, BSG, SG1 (on the US store so just vpn), Lost...loads. plus some good movies from the last year.

After Netflix it's my second most used. Never even considered Nowtv tbh.

I wonder what Picard will be doing in this series. Patrick Stewart is very old now so maybe it'll be his post-retirement Curb Your Enthusiasm years

Patrick Stewart is one of the best British actors ever.

Even though he's old and looks like a Galapagos tortoise he will smash it.

Even though he's probably going to have discovery level scripts to work with, he can elevate them to greatness.

Let's be honest, TNG was pretty bad on average. And TOS. If it wasn't for actors as good as him and The Shat, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I honestly can't wait for it. At least he won't be action man Picard from the movies. Back to his philosophical best.

I say this but kurtzman will probably cast some 22 year old academy graduate as the surprise main character and they'll just punch everything in the face and shoot everything because CGI budget.

    Picard's grandson steals a shuttle and defeats the Neo-Borg in single-handed non-stop double-quick edited ship-to-ship combat

His grandson is also bang into the "classical music" of Will.i.am and blasts it from the speakers as he blasts legions of drones

Christ. There will definitely be some awful shit like that in there.

I just hope they stick to basics. Discovery jumped the shark after about episode 3 when that spore nonsense was introduced.

Just do some simple sci fi TV.

    Probably a transporter shot.

Also loks like they've gone with the combadges from All Good Things, End Game etc.. Nice.

And the Dominion war started before Insurrection (the boring aliens were said to be making ketracel white for the Dominion, even). So having an old Picard would be kind of weird at that point.

Dark times in my Voyager rewatch. Naomi Wildman has now become a regular recurring cast member.
