Star Trek Page 222

It'll always suck because the main character is unbearable. At least Picard has a chance in that respect.

The trailers for it look pretty good to me. Still looks far too action heavy (despite them promising a thoughtful, slower show) but whatever. That's just what people want nowadays.

Data looks like shit but I assume those bits are dreams sequences with him being dead and all. I don't expect he'll be in it very much at all.

Not sure why they are doubling down on Burnham is space jesus again, (as the actress got pics of the high ups?) She is such an awful character and they write her as always right and can do everything. I'm sure they will shit over Picard's character

Presumably ‘Data’ is the proto-data thing they found in Nemesis? He does look like shit though.

Trailer looks good mostly, it’s got to be better than DSC anyway.

They look like dream sequences to me. He's been shown painting in a field and playing chess in a bright white room. Either a dream or holodeck. Spiner said he's not a cast regular and they've said that data forms part of the plot. Probably something to do with Picard's guilt over his death as character motivation. Which is decent, as long as it's not too maudlin and melodramatic.

It's got to be Lal, right?

You mean Lor? Lal was Data's daughter?

Yeah, sorry, that was apropos of nothing. I mean 'its got to be lal' who is the focus of the story.

With the added levels of sophistication in storytelling in the last 20 years, Data could be anything. He could be a backup running out of a holodeck.

Oh that's an interesting take never thought about the story being about Lal. I thought she was dead!

German one? I have blanked him/her out of my mind clearly.

Is that the one with the face implants?

Lal idea is interesting, she died in the episode but I don’t recall what happened to her body.
Maybe they could retcon it that her death was faked to escape the guy that wanted to take her away.

She wasn't dead, they faked her death, wiped her memory and left her with.... I dunno… the Rozhenkos so she could live a normal life.

Can we watch the shorts on Netflix? I remember last year they only came out for us as S2 started.

Netflix is not mates with CBS anymore so I doubt it. There won't be any star trek on Netflix soon.

Not sure TBH, it appeared on a certain website, downloaded it and watched it. But they have featured in a number of 'short treks' now, so I think it's inevitable.

    Yeah I said soon.

Netflix pumped loads of money into Disco and it was a bag of wank.

I think Amazon money hatted them for Picard.

Maybe they'll keep the old shows. Doubt these terrible shorts will end up on netflix. Probably for the best.

They’re so watchable, even final frontier and generations.

Final Frontier in particular is over-maligned. The whole "what does God need with a starship?" moment is pretty neat

It’s just a shame the rest of it is so boring (fan dance notwithstanding)

I think I must be one of the few people who really like final frontier. I don't know, it just doesn't get more Trek than them flying off to look for God and it has some really good character moments between Spock, Bones and Kirk

Looking forward to Picard. It's trailer was actually on the IMAX screen before SW.

I think it will have way too much action for a ST film but sadly that seems to be the way it's been for poor Trek for over two decades. Still...Captain Picard

Not really I suppose, it's not fully TNG either though. Which I suppose is the point. I'm not a fan anyway.

The Motion Picture might be my favourite. If it wasn't a Trek movie the exact same premise and action would probably be lauded as a proper classic of high concept slow moving visually bold science fiction.
