Voyager is the silliest, and it explored some of the same themes a bit to death, but is still think it is really great.

I am really looking forward to a DS9 rewatch soon. I did it properly for first time a couple years ago and I was blown away by the developing story line and performances. (Some really annoying characters aside, but I guess the TNG era always had its jar jar binkses...)

The Pike and friends stuff was the only stuff I really properly enjoyed in Discovery, so I'm all aboard for more of that :)

Yeah - feels like they're gonna use this one to tick the "Star Trek you remember" box, whilst continuing to piss on our faces with Discovery and Picard (although the latter gets a pass from me because The Feels).

I mean, of all the options, it's probably the best. Mount carried the second series of Discovery.

But they've had three attempts to produce something decent and so far I count about 4 good and enjoyable episodes in what they've given us.

Pike was the best one in Discovery. I wonder who else will carry over

I hope Burnham and Tilly are in it.

Given how Discovery ended I reeeally don't see much crossover.

Oh, they're screentesting Jake Cannavale to play young Kirk for SNW!

Prequels are generally shit. ST has done 2, both awful.

Memberberries casting and callbacks galore have been one of the biggest weaknesses of the JJ era, this will be full of them.

The last 2 shows have been average to complete cack with the odd good epsiode.

My expectations are fully set to tripe.

I'd like a new Star Trek series set after Nemesis (or after Picard) without fucking Kirk or Data or Captain April's nostalgic dog in it. The strange new worlds in this one are boring old worlds from a post-TNG POV. It'd be nice to boldly go somewhere new.

Obviously I know commercial imperatives and the nature of nerds means that we'll get Young Nurse Chapel Adventures before anything new.

The nature of nerds. That sounds like a weird spinoff of The Joy of Painting.

I actually liked Pike in Discovery Season 2, the episodes that centered more on him where decent, at least until Michael showed her fucking boring face again.

So whilst I'm giving Discovery 3 a miss I'm inclined to give Strange New Worlds a go.

I'm in the minority here though as I liked some bits of Discovery and most of Picard.

    So.... Discovery season 3 then?

What I'm finding a shame is that Trek is finally showing some ambition, the problem is that I really don't like the new iterations at all. Would have loved a few spin off series, imagine a section 31 spin off from DS9, or a time travel spin off from Voyager, all with the weekly morality play, character dev, action, adventure etc, can imagine them being great.

Thinking about new Trek going forward, I always thought the most obvious and lazy thing to do was to pull a voyager and have a ship thrown / take a one way ticket, to another galaxy! With absolutely no hope of going home they'd have to set up a colony / explore / who knows what else!

I thought that was what Disco S3 was going to be, but they time-travelled ? I'd already mind-wiped that detail it seems. Good ol' time-travel saves the day for writers yet again.

Thanks to The Simpsons, you made me picture the writing room when they decided that quickly to wrap things up before lunch!

It's very good and depressingly accurate. Funny. The last 10 minutes are actually quite sad. Bravo.

So depressing and ultimately self defeating, if you don't create something wonderful that the next generation (no pun intended) love and truly cherish!

But surely that is where Rodenberry's estate should come in and say, "hey, what the hell are you doing, this is shit, we kinda like Tilly and the Anthony Rapp character, but this is so far from what Star Trek is....you absolute pricks". They probably don't have much say. Shame!
