I think I laughed twice throughout out the whole thing, but he's right, it is the best Star Trek in years.

I was trying to think of the last decent Star trek thing and I struggled to remember. I think it might have been the third season of Enterprise. and that wasn't exactly amazing either.

Voyager finished 2 years after DS9, in 2001, so it's quite possibly the best Trek this century!

Never really got on with Voyager beyond a few great episodes.
The characters were either boring, pointless, redundant or actively hatable.
The Xindi storyline in Enterprise however was pretty compellling.

You know what I've always wondered about Star Trek? It invented vulcans as a species and has never been able to write them properly. Bar the original series. Tng, ds9 and voy couldn't manage it. They're supposed to be emotionless but they always write them as rude, arrogant, argumentative and belligerent. Even when it actively works against them or the mission.
    ALways bothered me.
Spock was done well though, in the old stuff.

VOY never took off, it was the same meh from start to finish. It had a few really good episodes but they were really few and far between. 90% of it was just meh, who cares.

Enterprise started bad but went ok in S3 and surprisingly good in S4. Enterprise S4 wasn't your usual Trek, it was kinda trashy, but surprisingly entertaining. Clearly not the best of Trek, but better than almost all of VOY and even better than a lot of TNG.

edit: that said, all of them were so much better than DSC

I have a massive soft spot for Enterprise, but funnily enough I didn't like the Xindi plot as it felt like too blatant a reaction to the success of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I much preferred the rest of it, including the really quite good season 4. Hang on, thinking about it, they tried to shoehorn in section 31 stuff too! Gaaahh, Archer, Trip and T'Pol were turning into a nice dynamic

Season 3 of Enterprise is top-tier but after that Enterprise was doomed. How do you successfully follow a season long plot about the fate of the Federation? The final episode was a disgrace.

    OK jefferies tubes.

They spend an inordinate amount of time crawling round these. Yet kneeling on the metal grids must play havoc with their knees.

I would invent some sort of 24th century padded tea tray on 4 wheels, which they could kneel on then pull themselves along the tubes with.

More like star wars than star trek is what I've taken from several reviews of Discovery S3.

    Kurtzman's got his wish then.

    Stick it up your arse.

Having read up on it a bit more, it sounds pretty bad. Has a new McGuffin, the burn, which will tediously be explained of 15 hours of bad writing no doubt.

Reviews are mostly positive, but they were last season and it was poo poo.

BURNham IS the BURN gasp, or responsible, or some other such schlock undoubtably....

The drug sequence purely to show HER RANGE before normal resumption of service. The riff on that Solo lightspeed skipping sequence (because lawd knows originality is dead). Only you can save us Burnham, I'm just Indian call-centre guy had me genuinely laughing. Thought he'd be a holo at least, sitting in his pristine Apple store despite the destruction.

The season preview at the end didn't seem promising, with catty comedy remarks from 90's kids shows, and a lot of boring CGI action to distract from the undoubtably dreary exposition that'll be whatever is needed that week, and no coherence throughout. Pretty much on par with Picard then.

I should’ve stopped watching at that speech at the end of Season 1. What utter pish.

I know I’ve been a Discovery apologist in the past but that recap of what the conclusion to season 2 was just highlights all the problems it had

    TROGDOR THE BURNHAMATOR

Also she seems awfully blase about being a thousand years in the future.

wow 1000 years in the future, better have the dumbest plot setup we can think of because obviously people 1000 years out of place discovering how the galaxy has changed isn't interesting enough

Goodness me Birthright really was the weakest two-parter TNG evar!
Like a bargain bucket special scraped up off the floor and all just batter no chicken. The first episode was basically filler, using the DS9 crossover on the weakest way possible. Fucking Julian Bashir for fucks sake.

On to Descent next. Hope it’s better I do recall enjoying it a lot when young. ‘Decent’ would do ha ha.

Bring back Evil Lorca!!! Hint: I'd settle for good Lorca.

I'm trying not to watch, and the weekly release schedule is helping actually. I will undoubtedly dip my toe in once all of them are up there and if the consensus on here is good.

Got half way through the episode. Whilst it's almost mildly entertaining it simply isn't star trek. At all. Curiosity will no doubt pull me back but for now I'm done with it.

    See how long that lasts.

I was quite enjoying it until they got to the trading post thing but then it all went to shit.
They seem determined to double-down on all the Series’ flaws.

For me it's not Star Trek, its moronic science fantasy schlock, which can be entertaining.

I'm going to wait for the Enterprise show as it sounds a bit more promising.

I can't watch DSC because I just hate Burnham's character. It's never going to get any better with a Jesus saviour figure as the central concept of a ST show. Oh and all the crying and Dawson's Creek shit. Awful.

Picard S2 I will probably watch, it was just about ok. At least it was short.
