Complete disgrace that there has been no 360 update and the twats at valve expect people to pay for one when it eventually arrives. (which will completely split an already small player base)

People say "just get the pc version". why should I have to? I didn't pay for the orange box expecting id have to buy it again on another format.

Actually valve really are quite crap, years waiting for tiny hl2 eps, refusing to develop for the ps3 and calling a left 4 dead expansion a sequel less than a year after the original released. (the witch walks around now!!)

You got a link to prove that statement about Valve charging for the Team Fortress updates, or is it just a bold statement with no basis in truth like the rest of your post?

Got my copy of TOB for about £12. Bought it for HL2, Episodes and Portal. Couldn't give a fuck about TF2.

As Smuggo says. TOB is the best bargain for years, content wise, especially these days as its 18+ months old. I couldn't give a toss if Valve don't touch TF2 to be honest, doesn't affect my impression of Valve.

Take all the time you need guys

It is a shame that Valve hasn't updated the 360 version. It's probably Microsoft that'd make them charge for the DLC though.

As for not many EGers playing it, indeed, they're all playing the proper (PC) version on the EG server :p

They tried to make Valve charge for the L4D Survival Pack. Valve basically, in more refined words, said fuck off. I believe similar happened for TF2, though whether that'll persist remains to be seen. I'd expect free though, to be honest there's nothing in the PC version I'd personally pay extra for.

I think ratso has a point even if he is being a bit harsh about it. It's frustrating/disappointing that something which appears to be, and is marketed as, the same game on 360 and PC, ultimately ends up as two very different games. That's notwithstanding the fact that the boxed TF2 product was ace anyway. It still had an exceptionally long lifespan on the 360.

Every point I made is true. Left 4 dead 2 is essentially a set of new skins and maps. "new survivors"? come on, thats not going to effect gameplay. L4d already has some melee. Its a set of minimal enhancements thats going to kill L4d 1.

They could give us the few new gameplay features for free as a l4d1 patch and then charge for the new maps. L4d 1 would still be worthwhile then.

So that's a news piece from August last year, which says...

That will change later this year when developer Valve releases a comprehensive collection of the updates as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version

It's almost a year since that piece was written, and the DLC for Team Fortress hasn't arrived. In that time Valve have provided Left 4 Dead with the free Survival Pack. Do you see why I take your claim with a pinch of salt?

And the whole Left 4 Dead 2 issue has been argued at ridiculous lengths in several other threads so I'm not going to rehash it here yet again, but suffice to say if you actually do a bit of research you'll see the sequel is much more than a few new maps and characters. There's a vastly improved and expanded AI director for starters.

agreed, TOB is best collecton money can buy... And as of valve being 'twats' far from. valve churn out quality after quality they may take their time but its always worth it.

Last tried this about a year ago but was put off by a) the enormo-lag and b) only being able to connect to games with french-speaking types. Was thinking off digging it out tomorrow night as i've bored my nuts off with Halo 3 and COD but sounds like its pretty dead on 360 - and i cant see me Macbook coping with it :( . Shame how, considering the number of Live subscribers, everyone just plays two games - variety is good!

There's still quite a few TF2 matches playing on 360 and you can get some good games going, but word of caution - Recently I found lots of hosts had hacked games e.g low gravity, team killing, etc. turned on - twas about as much fun as visting the dentist :(

Hopefully the DLC will patch it to stop these exploits.

Why do people feel so much entitlement to free shit for their games? You willingly bought the product and you're able to play it. As many people pointed out, The Orange Box is about the best value you can get for the 360.

That said, so many people still bitch about not getting additional content for free, just because the PC version of the game has it. Do you think maybe this has something to do with the PC's player base being staggeringly massive compared to the 360's?

Seriously, if you want a version of the game that's supported like the PC version, buy the sodding PC version.

christ, didn't even know this was possible on Live - shows how much i pay attention! One of the reasons i gave up on PC shooters online in the early 2000s was the sheer ubiquity of this sort of crap, and the paranoia it bred - you couldn't get a legit kill without being drowned out in a cacophony of allegations. Poor show if Valve and Microsoft haven't stamped on this immediately instead of waiting for an interminably delayed content patch. Still, will have a cautious nose round on it tomorrow - fingers crossed cos i'm desperate for something different :(

Indeed - HL2 plus the episodes are pure kickarse - not so much TF2 as I hate random yanks in the match making process but hey its cheap as chips these days

    Get to Ravenholm forthwith!

Gave it another bash last night - no ranked games going it seems, but was able to get into a non-ranked match with some good players, lag non-existent, no hacking anywhere to be seen and had a blast! Can see what all the fuss is about now! Great game, glad i gave it another go - now to study that TF2 wiki!

I was thinking about re-buying The Orange Box. Are there many Team Fortress 2 players online nowadays?
  • Deleted user 21 March 2010 22:20:53
It's still a bit hit and miss, even with less players. Having said that, the last game I played on there was completely free of lag, free of exploits, and quite competive. A big surprise.

Er, I mean the Spy is one of my favourites.

I pumped in an insane amount of hours into that game. Would happily play if we can get some people going.

Trouble is... playing the 360 version (as fun as it was) seems almost pointless now a days seeing as Valve didn't bother to release even a single update for the game. Yes we all know it's easier updating the PC version of the game and what not... but they did claim before the game was released that they would be bringing the best of community made content to the 360 version... that never happened.

I kind of feel TF2 could have made a bigger impact on Live if they have released a steady stream of the updates on the 360 as well.

But oh well... its all water under the bridge I guess.

The new content never came to the xbox 360 because when valve tried the xbox 360 didn't have enough RAM to fit all the content in. Still if your computer is less than 5 years old you are able to play the orange box on the PC so why anyone would buy it on the xbox 360 really puzzles me.
  • Deleted user 22 March 2010 01:03:49
I thought the reason why they didn't release it was because they wanted it to be free, whilst Microsoft wanted to charge for it.

I'm still convinced once they update the engie they'll release the patch for 360.

I've only had a laptop and none of them could run TF2/Orange box, so I bought a pc to play it.

Seems it may be hard to get a good game. That's a shame, I was thinking to re-purchase primarily for TF2 and maybe another play through Portal.
