| It even got a mention in the House of Lords debate the other day as 'as an example of how compelling legal alternatives were an essential part of the solution' to illegal downloading. |

Registered 13 years agoStill getting prompted for an invite here, but it might be as we're on a German proxy at work. I'm getting a mate to sign up for me, if I still can't get in I'll have to try it again at home. -

Registered 17 years agoOne thing I miss from spotify is a decent library of videogame soundtracks. There's a couple of good orchestral renditions albums, but otherwise, nothing.
Hopefully this library will expand as spotify grows? -

Registered 15 years agoI've noticed that they have added visual ads along the right hand side now also. I don't mind though because the service is excellent. -

Registered 19 years agoIt's a great service, but I hear from a couple of music industry journalists that with the current level of advertising, they are losing money everytime someone signs up for the free version. They have about €20 million in VC funding, so maybe that'll get them through... -

It's pretty good for obscurities, considering it's totally free, the amount of content is phenomenal.
Well, they did scour Pirate Bay extensively, to fill out their library before they started.

Combine it with a download service and people will sign up. Simple.

Every 5-6 songs, but I think it depends on the popularity of the song. ie. the chart stuff has more adverts
You also get adverts popup within the program window, but they're very unobtrusive and you probably will have the program minimised anyway.
Yeah, had a few. Much better than the We7 ads, which are irritating. Once they sort out the "buy song/album" links with 7 Digital they should start to make money. Again, as long as the price points are right -

As good as Spotify is, Napster has been doing this for ages with the key difference being you can download the tracks and play them back on up to three PCs (if you pay the £10 a month).
No ads on Napster either. -

I think not.

Indeed. I am now listening to some stuff that I really have been meaning to for quite some time but never got round to it. Like NiN, for example.

Actually, that's a good question. I suspect you're right. Which is a shame as they've clearly missed a gap in the market that Spotify has since filled.
If you are prepared to pay for the premium Spotify service, you are much much better off using Napster. Especially if you combine it with a program called AudioTaxi to remove the DRM....
Or so I hear... -
Does anyone PLEASE have an invite? I am (fairly) regular and have given out beta codes for other regs in the past. -

Registered 18 years agoIt is awesome. The news that they're not making any wonga is unsurprising though. The free service is already excellent and the upgrade isn't worth it. I hope they can turn a decent profit soon - I'd be happy to have a few more ads thrust down my eyeballs when I'm browsing the player if they wanted to do it that way. Keep the ads between songs as they are though please. -
Well, I can't get in without one? -
