Bully - Scholarship Edition

    So in typical Rockstar fashion this only just made it to PC - I played it briefly on the PS2, so I knew what to expect. But for anyone else who's bought it on PC - is it severely washed out? It appears to use a heavy bloom effect you can't seem to turn off, which just makes everything look undersaturated and far too bright.

    1UP slated the PC release as being a terrible, terrible port, iirc.

    Which is a shame, because it's a great game.

    Yeah, I'd agree with that. It has full 360 pad support though (as it's blatantly a port of the 360 version rather than a proper rewrite ala the other GTAs), so I didn't see any of the mouse glitches they talk about, but yeah. V-sync off and quite a bit of it becomes unplayable as it rockets along at 200fps. V-sync on and there are random moments where the framerate drops into single digits (mostly when there's a decal/special effect - ie a splat or something).

    This is at least the third time now (after Dead Space and, um, something else I can't remember right now) where PC games had trouble with vsync on console ports where all kind of weird shit happens with vsync off, and the controls feel laggy with vsync on. Very strange.

    I presume there's some sort of basic mouse-control middleware available that they're bolting on for some games, rather than them coding it and testing it properly themselves.

    Only thing I can think of that's causing two unrelated games from different studios to exhibit identical symptoms.

    Picked this up for a tenner on Steam. It's so fucking broken I'm shocked it's even legal to charge money to download it. Emailed Steam asking for a full refund as the forums are full of people with the same problem (constant footsteps, all NPCs in an area speak at the same time, constant buzz and cracks). Typical generic auto response;

    Thank you for contacting Steam Support. While we do not offer support for third party games, we may be able to provide some advice with more information. Please describe the issue you are experiencing in more detail. Also, provide a screenshot of any error(s) you are seeing. Typical response to try and stop you taking things further by making it more hassle than it's worth, I fucking hate that! Stick with it, if you can be arsed.

    What annoyed me was I even asked in my original (detailed) email if they wanted to see some video footage of it happening. Completely ignored for some generic stock response.

    Not really expecting anything from it anyway. They did refund my F1 pre-order last year so they're 1 for 1 in my books. Just a heads up for anyone looking to pick this game up; UL is right, it's a shit port :)

    I picked this game up for the PC for a fiver last year and once patched had no problems with it. Played it with the Xbox 360 controller. Visuals, bar the drab colour palette, and audio were acceptable given it was a no-frills port of the Xbox 360 version. Could have been better, yes, but if I remember correctly the Xbox 360 required an emergency patch to fix it post-launch so it isn't surprising to hear of PC owners experiencing problems with it.
