I'm probably worrying about nothing, but I had a really bad stomach for most of yesterday evening, and it seems to have lingered for the whole of today too.

It feels a bit like I've been stabbed (or shanked - if you're a hardcore gangsta) in the lower right side of my gut - but I haven't been sick / no fever / no explosive pooping, and I haven't completely lost my appetite.

Soooo...do I only have a few hours left until something bursts out of my stomach?

I had appendicitis this summer. It is a vague central pain that gradually locates to the bottom right hand side of your abdomen. It becomes more tender, may be associated with a mild fever, nausea and loose motions. As peritonitis develops you will become more tender, just driving over a bump in the road hurts, coughing or sneezing would be intolerable.

Don't wait if it is persistently tender to prod - ring NHS direct or see out of hours.

    Eeek.

All I have is the pain in the lower right of my gut. It only really hurts if I try to move around, so I was hoping it was just a badly pulled muscle.

Yep, doesn't sound like appendicitis, but you're asking the internet for a medical diagnosis.

I've watched too many Woody Allen films - that's my problem. ;)

appendicitis is almost always a very sudden on set, its a tiny tiny tiny little thing and once it gets infected it kicks up a very serious fuss quickly its like punching a baby.

yeah that's the best way to describe it.

saved my ex birds life, she very nearly just took a valium and sleep it off (her old dear needed valium for some reason) but instead of letting her i called the ambulance and hers burst when she got into A&E.

    go me.

You seen that Simpson's episode where Dr Hibbert removes the man's appendix and hurls it away seconds before it explodes?

Just saying. Can't hurt to carry a penknife ;)

I had appendicitis many years back. It was only painful when I tried to stand up, whilst I was sitting down it wasn't painful, I literally couldn't stand up straight as it was way too painful. A friend persuaded me to drive to hospital and I was immediately admitted and had the op the following day.

Are you near to an A&E that you can get to now? Better safe than sorry and all that.

Seconded, having had my appendix explode after being in hospital for over 24 hours ("we better not operate if it isn't as it may be risky" (not as risky as it bloody exploding you stupid doctors)) and having the emergency appendectomy (correct word/spelling?) makes me insist you go in there if you even think it may be, as I still have some of the consequences of it now (over 5 years later) such as herniation of scars etc...

That's my cheerful advice finished with now :)

Also I had none of the symptoms you said you don't have either, just the pain.

Had it a few years ago. 24 hours or quite severe pain in college and at home, then another 24 on a trolley in hospital where it promptly ruptured. After it was removed i then got some sweet ass mrsa before it was cool which fucked me for a month. On the upside though, morphine is fucking awesome.

Yeah, the missus perforated hers a few years back too. She'd been going to the docs persistently for months complaining something was wrong and was fobbed off every time (inc once being told by a French doctor that "you English have bad diets, it'll be that"). Eventually I said enough is enough and whisked her off to A&E, where they argued for hours over who was going to take her in, as they couldn't decide what it was. Eventually the surgical team did, opened her up and found it stuck to her bowel. Which was nice.

When I had mine out over 20 years ago my neighbour assisted in the Operation. She said it was one of the biggest she'd ever seen and even offered to put it in a jar for me! (O_o)

Don't see the doctor, it will all be fine. I think you should jab at the tender spot with a butter knife till the pain goes away.

I had the same thing a good few years back. As in similar symptoms. It was horribly painful and my appendix had in fact burst. So go and get it checked out or you might die! Cheery thought but go and check. Go.

Yup. Mine went from a low pain in the bottow right hand side of my guts, into "OMFG I'm never gonna stand up again!" Inbetween which was a meal which tasted very off. Went to A&E and within 45 mins I was on a table cut open. Doc said it was very large and pretty close to popping.

    Also: Morphine is ace.

All I really remember from the whole sorry experience is spewing up so muchit covered an entire school desk and then being sent home. A couple of days of shitting and puking and then someone sticking a finger up my arsehole just before the operation.

Haha, what?! Sticking his finger up where now?!

    "This isn't the operating theatre!"
    "Shhh."

MASSIVE thanks for all the tips guys - I am now sitting here (rather uncomfortably) without an appendix - but with three very cool tummy scars. :)

Went in early hours on Monday, and had the operation at about 9:30am.
