I'm quite impressed with the party system, or rather the representation of it on your 'friends avenue'. I can see the avatars and gamertags of anyone in a party / lobby with someone on my friend list.

    Nice touch!

Oh, and: YOU CAN CHOOSE A MONACLE FOR YOUR AVATAR

By George I think you're onto something. You just made me realize that www.amazon.com is just an excuse to make money. And so it www.itunes.com and so is www.bestbuy.com and.....

Holy crap! I just realized there are thousands of websites that get redesigns so it's easier to spend money! Thank God Sony and Nintendo are "Not for Profit" companies or I'd be really depressed.

What is this world coming to????? Those bastards!

I dowloaded some free demos of Community Games. Many of them are boring but two games are really great Weapon of Choise and Crystal Crush. Did anyone try it too?

Going into that is easy. But when in that menu all the clean stuff goes away. It's like they only went halfway with the interface.

    So yeah call me crazy.
I see a screenplay adaptation coming up:

    disc:
There's a man over there doesn't like the perfume. The big one.
Don't look, don't look. We're in danger, we've got to get out.
    barton:
    What are you talking about?
    disc:
    I've been called crazy.
[barton turns to address the room in general.]
    barton:
    What fucker said that!?

[The large gentleman in the corner gets up and walks over to them.
Now he is upright we see he is very large indeed and does not look
    friendly.]

    Ilmaestro:
I called him a crazy. And now I'm calling you crazy. Crazy!
    barton (smiling):
    Would you like a drink?
    Ilmaestro:
    What's your name McFuck!?

[As he says this he jerks the scarf from around barton's neck.]

    barton:
I've a heart condition. I've a heart condition. If you hit me it's
    murder!
    Ilmaestro:
I'll murder the pair of y'ers.

Well, I've seen people in top hats - can't find them myself. I think there's tons... and it's all waiting for some silly unlock.

Small thing but I like how you can now filter full games only. Makes it a bit 'neater' or something I suppose, to be able to see what's on your hard drive and on your shelf.

Also had trouble finding this. You have to press the guide button, and it's in that menu.

Thought I'd give you folks my impression of the Netflix on the 360. One day something similar is bound to turn up in other territories.

The selection is somewhat limited; it's only titles that you are already able to watch immediately on your PC and these tend to be pretty much all older titles. Saying that, the documentary and indie film selection is excellent; I see myself using the feature pretty much exclusively to watch such movies as there's loads there I want to see. Also good for TV series.

You use your PC to log into your Netflix account, (you only need a $9 a month plan to qualify), queue up the movies you want and they almost instantly appear as panels on your 360. Using a cable line, there's about a 20 second buffering download then the movie starts and plays flawlessly. I watched Aliens on a 32 or so inch SDTV and it looked great, like a very high quality Xvid rip. If I focused I thought I could see minimal artifacting in dark situations. Audio syncing was perfect. I will attempt to try it out on my HDTV at home to see what the quality is like but my home connection is via my neighbour's wireless so I expect a less smooth experience, but that's the fault of my connection.

I've essentially now got a massive library of watchable movies 30 seconds away from viewing on my 360. When they release HD movies this service will bump up another level. I still get one real DVD movie at a time from the limitless main selection to enjoy as well, so I look at this as free documentaries and TV shows and I think it's a good service. No doubt music will be added at some point; I hope they allow this eventual service to be used as a custom soundtrack.

On a related note, I had to use my US silver account to access the Netflix option, then switched to my UK gold gamertag to watch the movies. I do have to go through the silver account first but at least I don't need to buy a second gold account. Unless there's IP barriers it might be possible for someone outside the US to sign up for Netflix using the address of an American friend and using a US-registered Silver account then jump to their Euro Gold account to watch the movies.

If anyone is feels like giving it a blast via the 2 week free trial to see if this workaround actually functions, (I have my doubts thanks to the IP issue) I'd be happy to test along with them for the potential greater joy of the forum.

Time to go buy a big bag of smack!

I take it back. There are already HD movies up on the service. Not plugged into an HDTV round here, so it looks like I'm going to have to haul it round here next weekend for a spacker vegging session.

PS - anyone tempted to drunkenly buy the VP:TiP premium theme. Don't.

Christ, looking at the TV and movie documentaries available this is heaven for fans of that type of stuff. Not to mention all 4 series of Airwolf!!!

I'm too lazy to read the entire thread (sorry) but has anyone noticed problems with voice chat after the update? It's probably coincidence, but I basically couldn't talk with the guy I was playing with last night, and this has never happened before. Mind you the lag must have been horrible, as his car was jerking all over the place in PGR4.

Still loving NXE apart from that.

I really like the NXE, but it's really starting to annoy me now that it brings up the spotlight channel first everytime I log on instead of My XBox and the friends channel is 3 or 4 channels above or below My Xbox .
Also why are there 2 advertising channels, neither of which are unique, they both show the same sort of content?

    ^ This...Exactly...

The spotlight channel boot-up i can understand (advertisement, more moniez) but the friends channel being 3 clicks above/below the "my xbox" one is truly stupid and not ergonomic at all...

Anyone noticed the subtle guide menu advertising? Press the guide button and go left one blade. At the bottom of the guide there's an advert for content for whichever game you're currently playing.

I'm still having problems accessing some content on the Marketplace, particularly the Featured Downloads part which seems to take forever to load. Also those 10-15 second sporadic freezes are still there while accessing my Friend's list or sending/reading messages, granted it's usually only happens once or twice a day but it's still annoying it does happen.

Oh and for some reason accessing the Games Library now takes a good 20 seconds on occasion even though it's supposed to list stuff on the HDD... presumably this is because it is accessing LIVE for advertising? The frustrating thing is that it was *always* instant when I used NXE offline so is another example of how using the 360 online actually makes it slower. Not impressed with that really.

As for the advertising, I can't say it bothers me too much as it is relevant to the Xbox 360 but I do find it odd why the new The Day The Earth Stood Still movie is advertised three times across various parts of the dashboard, including TWICE in the Spotlight section. That is just totally unnecessary IMO.

Only reason to use the 'friends avenue' is to see what parties people are in, otherwise it's the guide button and very quick & useful that is too!

I'd love to watch the Day The Earth Stood Still trailer but it keeps pausing, no matter what time of day I try it at >:(

And yes, I'd noticed the advertising on the guide for themes, gamerpics etc. Doesn't bother me as it doesn't get in the way, at least.

It's accessing the Guide which results in occasional freezing for me, Retroid, although it does admittedly clear up if I wait! ;)

Anyway, NXE is really great for the most part, it's ironically the occasionally laggy LIVE service that lets it down because, as I said, I never had *any* freezing issues in the two weeks I used the leaked NXE offline.

Yeah... it's not perfect but it's a pretty damned effective replacement with the same features still there (except for stuff which occasionally buggered up for me, like auto XBLA downloads), and expansion of others, since the Party system is basically an eight-person private chat channel which has been there since launch, only one-to-one.

Oh NXE is a tenfold improvement on the old dashboard, even with the teething issues I couldn't go back to the old monstrosity, no way. Credit to Microsoft for doing so much good stuff with NXE but they need to get down now and work hard to fix the niggling issues that are still there almost a week after launch.
