I've just told a prospective customer where he can stick his order, he wanted a Union Jack with "British by birth" printed on it. I'm assuming that is racist somehow... it is BNP linked, you can buy their t-shirts with it. I was wanting to check the list to see if he was on it, but it seems rather popular at the moment!

Surely British by Birth means you can be British no matter what your shade if you are born here?

Edit - he's not on the list...

I'm 'British by birth' and I was born in Hanover.

I really don't understand how anyone can be such a silly cunt over what patch of dirt and rock they happen to live on.

Looks like the full quote is "British by Birth....English by Grace of God". So the BNP can't even get by with out offending 3/4 of the countries in the nation they claim to represent.

Maybe we should have printed them, but impregnated the fabric with fibreglass and poison?

Mmmm...he's got back saying I've got him all wrong:

"There is a pervasive thing in British society right now, if you say you're proud to be British then you MUST be racist and against anyone who is I expect some sort on non-white anglo-saxon protestant, why? I am not anti ANYONE!

These are a small part of a bigger picture, a bigger picture to try and get people away from being afraid to say they are proud to be British.

You'll notice it doesn't say ' proud to be white and british ' or any other rubbish of that nature. It will be a very inclusive logo for ANYONE of ANY descent who is proud JUST to be British, I have included one of my t-shirt designs to show you.

I still think it stinks of BNP rhetoric - it has a distinctly anti-immigrant undertone if nothing else. His tshirt design is a multicultural clip art abomination. I think he's at it.

What if he looked like he was of asian/african descent? Would you have sold it to him then? Or are you applying racists polices against white people?
  • Deleted user 20 October 2009 12:04:02
Well, brokenkey, the point is, that IS very similar to the rhetoric of the WHITE BNP. DaM may have made a mistake, and hopefully that customer merely has good intentions, but it's not fecking racist to be anti-BNP.

In other news, I am proud to be British, in as much as it's a total accident and I'm rather grateful it happened, given my living standards.

I am even more on my guard against people wanting orders with African names, 9 times out of 10 they are scammers, I have no choice! We get the fake cheque scam tried at least once a month, always from Nigerian sounding types.

We are all online, so he could be purple for all I know. Doesn't have a foreign name.
His response just doesn't seem right (I can just picture cuntface saying most of it on Question Time)...and the t-shirt design looks like a hastily designed clip art mess, not a t-shirt design (it's got about a million colours in it for a start, a small run would cost him a bomb).

That heat map is amazing. Shows there are more members where more people live. I hope someone feels like that was time well spent.

The only real way I can see I could be proud to be British is if I had been given some sort of choice about being British prior to being born. I honestly don't remember that happening which would leave me having to have pride in a random event which seems an odd thing to pride yourself on.

On reflection I think lucky to be British (you are really pretty lucky if you were born in any western country) makes more sense. To be born into the richest segment of the Earth's Human population at the highest general level of prosperity that segment has ever enjoyed is majorly lucking out really. To then waste that luck on complaining how unfair things are for you in this rich society due to X is just taking the piss.

Just flat out ask him if he's a BNP supporter.

British by birth doesn't even mean that you where born in the UK. You just need to have a British mother and presto.

Just playing Devil's Advocate here, surely "British by colour" would work better for the intended purpose.

Sounds like if you want someone to get a beating you just have to add their name to the members list and play the waiting game...

    Hey all,

I've posted this message in the 'Complaint made over MPs' expenses....' thread too but noticed your conversations on politics and thought that you might be interested. Apologies to those of you that have already read this in the other thread.

I asked to officially post, as I wanted to let you know about a campaign we've launched, called Open Up, to make politics more open and transparent. In particular we are calling on the public to sign our petition for open primaries which we want in place by the next election.

The petition is at http://www.openupnow.org/ and we've had some pretty funny videos made by the comedy legend, John Lloyd, on our YouTube page too.

You can also join us on Twitter and Facebook.

As this is something I know a fair few people here are passionate about I thought you might like to support us!

I look forward to hearing your views, thanks for reading.

    Tom

It is however, an online petition. Which actually has less use than Spam, from which you can at least make fritters.
  • Deleted user 20 October 2009 13:12:54
    True online petitions are pointless.

Let's cut the guy some slack, as opposed to most spammers he did take the time to approach us and ask for permission to post a link to his site, the campaign seems to be a serious one and doesn't merit instant dismissal and abuse. Let him have his say and address the content of his post at least. He's not selling anything.
