I ave itchy roof of mouth itchy eyes and a constant stream of mucas running from my nose. I feel completely worn out this year Have resorted to taking more then my recommend dose of antihistamines, not that they help. Also , the itchy roof of my mouth has given me a milk obsession as it is the only thing that soothes it |

Check with whoever prescribed it to you? Suspect that won't help you today though, sorry.
Ok, seems like its time for me to experience my yearly itchy throat and roof of mouth. Drives me nuts, but at least symptomatically its not as visual as other manifestations of hayfever, it just means i can't talk and i have to suck on ice cubes all day to cool it down.
Anyway, i've been taking amitriptyline for the past 3 months, not for depression, but just for stomach problems, but it seems that this can cause reactions with some antihistamines, which I would have normally started taking by now to try and stem the onslaught of itchiness. It's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know what hayfever medication can be taken safely with amitriptyline?
Any help would be very appreciated, because as I feel right now, I am likely to tear out my throat by the end of today.gif)
Can you even find a chemist that's open? Anyways, here's a link with actual named antinhistamines in it rather than just "antihistamines" like most of the other articles http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/depression/medicines/amitriptyline.html
However, I believe qualified pharmacists have a "big book o' medicines" that tells them about the various interactions between various medicines and which not to take with which, not to mention several years of training. So pop into a proper chemists and ask the qualified person behind the medicines counter, innit.

Registered 13 years agoThis last week is the worst it's ever been. I never even got hayfever until 4 or 5 years ago, then it just popped up. Bastard thing. The sneezing I don't mind so much, but my eyes ;___; -

I feel sorry for you, my friend. I get the itchy throat/roof of mouth issue every year, but the strange thing is, I get it so bloody early on. And by early on, I mean usually mid-to end of Jan when it starts. I get woken up like 5am with an itchy throat and can't get back to sleep. It goes on for a couple of months and then ends. For some reason, I don't get it at the height of summer. I guess I react to different pollen.

First year of this in over a decade.
Fuck you, pollen.
Anyone else find all the major brands have mysteriously stopped putting non-drowsy on their pills? Was always bullshit in my experience anyway -

Oh aye, absolutely. Far better safe than sorry, even if the price is another evening of bastard hay fever. Something that might help slightly is keeping the windows shut (although obviously it will be stuffy) and wearing clothes and using pillowcases you didn't dry outside. That, and regularly splashing cold water on your face to get the pollen off/distract you a bit.
@BurnoutJunkie Thanks! I'll have this now till the tail end of Sept - early October (depending on how great a summer we have) so i always dread it setting in. I just want to eradicate whatever pollen causes it with a nuke from orbit.
That said, i do love the warmer weather so its very much love/hate with the next few months!.gif)
Anyway, I hope yours has eased off now?
And for anyone else reading, my throat is still intact (barely), and some sound advice from several people. I will get my ass down to a chemist first thing in the morning and have a chat with them about mixing certain medicines. I guess i was (and am) just a bit worried about having a drug cocktail with potential nasty side effects! -
God, yeah. It's very boring, but doing stuff like showering before bed and discarding 'outdoor' clothes rather than dragging pollen around the house does help. Not allowing pets to do drag pollen everywhere helps too.
I've got a stock of Callipos and other ices for the throat. -

Registered 16 years ago@ZuluHero Eased off for now, until early next year most likely. There are some random, one-off episodes here and there though. It's crazy though, there have been a couple of years where it has started towards the end of December and then gone on until early March.
I did get something from Boots once, called anesthetic throat spray. You spray it like a breath freshener, but more at your throat as opposed to mouth and it numbs your throat area for a little while. It helps a bit, but is pretty difficult to use. Try it, it may work for you.

I would recommend prescription tablets and spray to heavy sufferers, and staying inside playing video games. -

Yeah, I might try that if this shit carries on...hopefully we're near the end of the season now...aren't we?

Playing videogames is DEFINITELY prescribed for this ailment. -
Loratadine didn't touch it for me either. Stupid Dave Sainsbury and his crappy generics. -

Registered 17 years agoThe real insult to injury part of this is that it's plant jizz. What's wrong with you? Oh, I just have itchy eyes and a runny nose because plants have bukake-d all over my face. -

Registered 17 years agoI've got some eyedrops, that for the first 30 minutes feel a little bit like you've doused your pupils in petrol. Then for the rest of the day they leave you with really tired eyes. Still preferable to hayfever symptoms, but far from ideal. -

Also, had a very trippy day in the office last week after taking Sainsbury's own-brand antihistamine. I'm a cheap date. -

I'll never forget that one year (yikes! probably 20 years ago!) I was on prescribed tablets and some uber-strong nasal spray, and the combined effects turned me into a total cunt...well, more of a cunt; short-tempered to the max and PROPERLY fucking waspy...it didn't help that my boss at the time didn't have aircon and kept the Velux windows wide open in an office surrounded by trees laden in pollen.

oh, also some of them have pseudoephedrine in them for decongestion, innit. Some people find that stuff a wee bit trippy I think, but that's unlikely to be in cheapo own brand hayfever stuff, that's your Clarityns.

Registered 17 years agoLoratadine & cetirizine are the common ones. They are both generic, so supermarket or pound shop pills are the same as Zirtek and Clarityn. There are a few other ones as well but those are the main generic ones AFAIK.

It really pisses me off that alcohol makes it worse. It's just insulting you.
