| Bah, GYBE! are playing in November but it's all the way down in London. Not sure if I can afford to travel all that way. |

Registered 16 years agoNew Hammock (double) album "Departure Songs" is amazing. They do this sort of epic melancholy post-rock better than anybody else, I reckon.

Registered 13 years agoRightio folks, you can possibly help me make up my mind. Are 65days of static any good? Is it worth my while buying some of their stuff?
Someone has recommended them to me after hearing that I adore Mogwai, but I must confess to never having heard of them. I will try to remember to spotify them to see how they are later on at home, but thought I might as well poll opinions from your good selves too. -

Registered 15 years ago@BillMurray Yea it's The Dead Flag Blues from F# A# (Infinity)
@Vortex808 Try Radio Protector, Tiger Girl or Come To Me with Robert Smith on vocals. I'm not sure how similar to Mogwai they are, but they are more electronic focused (like synths, drum machines, etc)
On a side note I got The Entire City Was Silent by Followed By Ghosts last year on a whim and never regretted it. Very Explosions In The Sky but still worth a listen -

Registered 14 years ago@Vortex808 65daysofstatic are fantastic, but not all that similar to Mogwai really. I love both bands, but for different reasons.
As Mike says, Radio Protector is a good shout, Drove Through Ghosts to Get Here is decent too. I'm also a big fan of Fall of Math, but I know that's not for everyone. -

Registered 13 years agoCheers for the opinions folks. I'm assuming they weren't recommended on similarity to Mogwai, just as something I might like due to being in the same loose 'post-rock' genre.
I like electronic stuff too, so that's not an issue, I just hoped to poll if they were worth making the effort to check out or not. AP seems to suggest they are, so I shall make more effort to get a hold of some of their oeuvre. -
Anyone heard Baltic Fleet's new album? I *think* it counts as post rock, although there's a lot of electronics on there. Some amazing catchy riffs all the way through nonetheless. -

Also, only just found this on youtube but the whole Envy DVD has been uploaded . I've gone through two copies now and it's still my favourite music video/compilation, but then it would be as they're my favourite band.

This is a very nice album, and an interesting development from something like Maybe The Will Sing..., which was much more ambient. This has taken on a lot of space-rock/pop stuff, which I like. Like M83, but less overt.

AND IT'S FUCKING AMAZING -
Tunnel Blanket by TWDY is moving up and up and up my favourite albums list.
Little Smoke is just brutal, 10 minutes+ of relentless smashing guitars, and then Glass Realms follows and is just so perfect in tone to carry on the mood of the album, in such a different way.
The rest of the album is great, but Killed the Lord... is a piece of absolute post-rock perfection. -

EDIT: I'd just like to add that they've just released an album with remixes of some of their tracks and it's free unless you wish to pay summat...

Registered 17 years agoI didn't even realise Katatonia were releasing anything, cheers. So, that's basically a sombre remix album then? -
It's a version of Dead End Kings with the heavy guitars and drums removed. Not just a remix as I believe some of the instrumentation is new. It's fab. Actually posted my review today. Cheeky link.
There really isn't enough of The Gathering in this thread. So I'm going to address that..gif)

Yeah it's a 'prog' reworking of Dead End Kings - very different to the original in places. Album has already leaked, if your google fu is strong enough, actual release is in a week or so I think.

I guess so, lots of Pink Floyd in The Gathering.

Have your heard the new album from The Pineapple Thief's Bruce Soord? It's called Wisdom of Crowds and it has Jonas Renkse from Katatonia doing all the vocals. It's bloody marvellous. Here's a taster - and this video wouldn't be out of place on Pink Floyd's big circular screen.

The Gathering are post-rock? -

Registered 17 years agoTo me, post rock is usually without vocals. But genres are so wishy washy that as long as it's semi-relevant and not shit, then we should be happy you're posting it. -
I've never heard that definition of post rock before. So my apologies. Maybe there's two completely different post rocks. .gif)
I think of post rock as bands like The Gathering, Portishead etc.
