Hi guys, Myself and Bravogolf are heading to brussels for some Belgian beer at the end of January. Not got a clue about the place, where to go, what to do, great pubs...we'll be there for 4 days, Thursday to Sunday. What we're looking for, worldy-wise folk, is information about hotels, hints and tips, secret passages, special moves that sort of thing |
Brussels, a guide if you please

Registered 14 years agoMy uncle works with EU over there so I was over visiting last year. With Paris, it's my favourite city I've been to. Stayed just off Place De Luxembourg which was nice and central.
Be sure to visit Grand Place. It's a beautiful gothic market square.
Also look out for the bus that travels to Wiener. -

Registered 17 years agoBrussels is a pretty good night out, you should have a cracking time. We went there for a flying 24 hour, no sleep, visit for my birthday a few years ago. Pablo's Disco Bar is the only firm memory I have though, and even that's a little hazy

Excellent! I'll be around. .gif)
Some advice previously given, still valid. -

don't drive. It's fucking chaos, and populated by incredibly rude people who can't indicate.
Car parks are designed by retarded people who think Howl's Moving Castle is an ideal model to base multi-storey parking on.
Belgian beer is also filth, but incredibly high in alcohol content to make up for the poor taste.
In fact, skip Brussels and go to Ghent or Bruges, much much nicer. Brussels does have one good aspect though, the Ring 0 road, which will allow you to skip out of Belgium and head straight for Germany without ever havign to deal with Belgians, especially if you fill up in Kent and drive economically.
BTW, no surprise that Ghent and Bruges are in Flanders.

Registered 17 years agoGet a train to Ghent for the day. Takes 30 minutes to get there and you can have a walk about town and see the sites in a few hours, stop off for a few beers and then get a train back to Brussels.
If you're there for 4 days, 3 days of Brussels is plenty.
I'd come out and join you lot and Otto but funny enough I'm probably in London for a training that week. -

You what?
Best thing in Brussels is the train station. Takes you to lots of fun places.

Not sure what your budget is, but there is a hotel just behind Grand Place called The Royal (I think). Veyr very plush but has excellent deals making it quite affordable. Most of the rest of the stuff in Belgium is a train ride away so I would definitely base yourself in Brussels and just travel out.
Royal Windsor? -

What the fuck? Well, the commercial stuff (Stella, Jupiler, Maes) isn't exceptional, but try Moinette, Westmalle Tripel, Saint-Feuillen and Palm and tell me they're shit.
Anyway, since I actually live in Brussels, avoid
- The North Station
- Saint-Guidon (it's in an area called Anderlecht)
- Using public transport after midnight. I's not in the media, but Brussels is a very dangerous place at night.
If you can, Laeken is also well worth a visit. -

Hey, Brussels is awesome, the Mappa Mundo (close to the Ancienne Belgique) has the best Mojito's in the city, maybe we can have a mini EG-meet there ?
