@Rusty_M I will join that if two more people join, my friend keeps telling me its a good game. Seems worth a punt for that price

Like many back then I hated and dreaded having HL2 locked up in this online world it almost put me off buying the game things have turned around now I wouldn't buy a boxed pc game ever.

I remember what a bind it was at launch. I was supposed to be reviewing Half-Life 2 for work and getting Steam to work, download the game and then actually unlock it was a fraught experience. Seemed a hateful piece of crap.

And now it's my preferred way of getting hold of games. It has certainly matured very well.

I've bought everything I want on Steam anyway :)

@PenguinJim Saying the sales have gone downhill is unfair really. They're the same as they ever were, we have just bought most of the stuff we wanted. Theres usually at least a few things in each sale worth grabbing, even if its only some cheap dlc.

Fair point. I'd completely forgot about those tbh. They have become far less of an event.

When the summer sale starts I can confidently predict I'll buy virtually nothing, unless they drastically reduce the prices!

On the plus side, a Steam sale usually sees the other companies (GMG, GG, GOG - sorry, that sounded like I was having a stroke) react by having their OWN sale.

Steam sales have only gone downhill because I own too many games and the newer games haven't been discounted* enough to make me buy them...

    I have three rules:
    1) 15 is my maximum price point in a sale, normally newer games that were at 25+

    2) 50% off is minimum i'll settle for. Usually for newer games normally costing 20+ but I'll never break rule (1)

    3) Anything else must be at least 75% off or sub 5.

Re: using and trusting Steam vs. HL2's release in 2004...

Back in 2004, we had been used to our Internet connection being both much slower, and less accessible due to costs and the dial-up era respectively.

Our PCs also aged a lot quicker back then. A 2000 PC in 2004 would be largely useless, while a 2009 PC now - well probably just a graphics card and some cheap RAM. I had 6GB in 2009, but that's just me.

PCs were also less reliable. I have my 2009 installation of Windows 7 x64 in use right now. It works great. It'd, however, be unthinkable to consider that I'd have my 2000 hardware and OS installation still running and functional in 2004. That would mean that in 2004 I'd be running either Win 98SE or Win 2000, which is again unthinkable. It was a different world.

We couldn't trust that we'd be able to get access to this unproven service, perhaps due to lack of access to the Internet on any given PC.

It's like how our social lives were pre-1999 when people didn't have mobile phones or txting in any great number. The world was very different, and you'd have to make social arrangements in a completely different way.

Music's another one. How did we used to access music pre 1999's Napster? It was FM radio, a friend or a physical or mail-order shop. One of these three would be NEEDED to even LISTEN to a song, unless it happens to be played at a venue or from a car. Different world now, as anyone can type the artist and name of a song on here, and I can be playing it in seconds on demand using one of several services.

    What's next?

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is only 8.99 on GMG at the moment.. Activates on Steam.

Has anyone played Dust: An Elysian Tail?
Keep looking at it on steam. Looks great and gets decent reviews as well. I didn't have it on the 360.

Has the Sonic Hits Collection been around long? Seems very good value for 27 if you've no recent Sonic games.

I've been looking at getting Transformed and Generations for the 3DS just this week but this pack will do nicely and all the oldies added in too is great for me :)

/ignores nearly unplayed Sonic collections already installed on PSP, PS3, Wii, DS

@kingcrowbar with transformed, generations and 4 parts 1 and 2 I'd say that's not bad if you don't own them already.

Looks good if you are set on getting those two and can't bear to hold out for the summer sales in a few weeks' time.

I think it was Green Man Gaming that had a similar deal on a 15 Sonic Bundle, the same contents except for Racing instead of Racing Transformed and without Dr Robotnik's MBM.

Transformed is probably the most costly game there tbh. I would expect some deals on sonic games in the sale though.

Gunpoint is apparently coming out next week, I just tried the demo and can't recommend it enough. Currently $9 on its website.

The only things it's missing are Racing Transformed (which they also have seperately for just under a tenner), Sonic Adventure 2 and Mean Bean Machine.

Can't seem to get the Amazon US thing working here, seems like my bank is not having any of this living in Alaska business.

I was looking at that combination first as it would have be $25 for both the Sonic Transformed and Action stuff + $9 for the whole Genesis Classic Series 5 Pack for Steam.

Anyone with the US Amazon fancy a Steam trade of Torchlight 2 for the Genesis 5 Pack? :D

edit: specifically that version above as apparently there is a Non-Steam version too.

I expect I know where you are going wrong, set up the Alaska address, then add a card payment, now when you go to checkout it will say "only US citizens" error, but in the bottom right there will be the option to change you billing address, that bit need to say the Alasa address as well...

also please bear in mind if the game is region locked it wont work, it is a gamble you have to take, as there seems to be no way of working out what games are region locked
