Registered 12 years agoFolklore seems to have held its value... it's a great "different" title, but an awful lot of us gave up on it far before the end.
If you can find Lair for a fiver, with it's patched in stick controls, you could probably have a few hours of fun with it. Was a mess beforehand, of course. -

Registered 11 years agoIf you like Tony Hawks, Skate is an excellent game, though it does go on. And I have really enjoyed Tony Hawk's proving ground, they are very different. Skate is for the technician and THPG is for the speed junkies this is massive on the next generation I actually quite got into the Wii version which is embarrasing compared to this.
I must be getting really old as I have been playing Tiger Woods loads.

It's a bit of a marmite game, fans of the series will love it.

I think it is a pretty polarising game. I bought it and played it and enjoyed it, but saying that it included some of my best and worst gaming moments this year. -

Registered 10 years agoAs it has been said MGS4 is a marmite game, dont think there is a problem that not many people here are mentioning it, just shows how many great games are available
Also forgot to mention Overlord... which is a great -

Good list. MGS4 is only worth it if you've played previous iterations. -

Not true. MGS4 was first metal gear for me and even though i missed parts of the plot and some characters (and probably didn't notice everything it had to offer) I still had great time playing it through. -

Have to second this. I played a bit of Grid and I have Burnout Paradise on the harddrive but hands down Motorstorm 2 beats them both IMO. Not too many games you can race monster trucks around a burning lava field! Really surprised at the critical reception it got since it improved on the first vastly. Great looking game and loads of fun, especially online. -

I have to agree, but extend. The best racer of the year on any console(along with Mario Kart on Wii obviously). One of the best games of the year. Stunning graphics, unpredictable AI(some of the best i have seen), they have improved upon everything on the first, more tracks, more vehicles, bigger festival. It is probably my favourite game of the year, beating MGS4, GTA4 and all the other big hitters, the only game that come close is LBP(stunning). -

^^THIS^^ and Pixeljunk Monsters and LBP...hours of fun there.
Also ive heard good things about Resistance 2, though i havent played it myself. -
Wrong? I don't know, I'm sure VC can be someone's favourite game on the system. I read the quote as "best of many" as opposed to wayneh's "only good game" comment. -

Registered 12 years agoValkyria Chronicles isn't a game that I have played to much depths beyond numerous re-goes on the demo. It's innovation in the SRPG genre reminds me of the classic Sega of old. Innovative yet flawed. Like a good old friend really.
(Having said that there isn't a game quite like it so definately worth a look. For me not at full price, but definitely on sale.)
Back on topic, all the high profile games have been covered, but if you have a taste for the different then I would add Everyday Shooter and Dark Mist to your list. Both excellent twin stick shooters. -
The problem with using the demo as a benchmark on VC is that you end up wondering if a) the game is entirely set in hilly fields and b) you can blast through the enemies with little thought or effort.
The actual game completely opens up on you past the initial training level and skirmish. -

Registered 12 years agoWidge, I'm not going to dispute that has obviously I haven't played the full game, but as there were a lot of quality games to choose from last year, I went with reviews scores to make my purchasing decisions and Edge (who I rate very highly) thought the AI was weak and heavily scripted.
As I have edited above, there isn't a game like it, so it's definitely on my to buy list. -
