Hi All, I'm conducting a little research into consumer perception of Xbox Live Community Games. So far, Microsoft have not made any sales figures public, so a lot of us are making business without any figures to base them on. Looks like there's some other XNA developers on here, and you've all been very helpful. I'm planning on sharing the results of these questions with the XNA community at large, so it'll be for the benfit of everyone. If you (and any other 360 gamers you know) could answer the following questions, both the XNA community and I would be very, very grateful! 1> Have you explored the Xbox Live Community Games Marketplace? 2> How many (if any) Community Game Trials have you downloaded? 3> How many (if any) Gommunity Games have you purchased? 4> How many (if any) XBLA titles have you purchased in the last twelve months? 5> What is your impression of Community Games thus far? |

Registered 18 years agoI'd be all over it like a rash if i had a 360 but my 360 owning friend i could speak for says.
He rarely if ever goes into the marketplace anyway, maybe for some demos of big titles he's interested in. Unless they hear about something being fun from the lads at work or down the pub most of them won't even go looking to be honest. They just stick to their AAA titles. Power on, disk in, play. That's it unfortunately.

Unless it has a great buzz about it, is higly polished and compulsive to play i'll not bother.

Registered 13 years agoI haven't looked at anything yet, but it's something I will look at sooner or later, like if I run out of boxed games.
To get people interested quicker, I think your best bet is to get videos of your games out there, and also to pay an artist to make the virtual boxart. First impressions. -

For what it's worth I'm a gamer not a dev.
1> Have you explored the Xbox Live Community Games Marketplace?
A: Yes
2> How many (if any) Community Game Trials have you downloaded?
A: None
3> How many (if any) Gommunity Games have you purchased?
A: None
4> How many (if any) XBLA titles have you purchased in the last twelve months?
A: 2 (I think) - Worms and Assult Heroes
5> What is your impression of Community Games thus far?
A: Can't comment on a specific title as I've not played any but it was interesting to have a look around and see what's available. Some of the games looked very impressive and professional whilst some looked less so and bit more basic in comparision. That's not to say they are, but it's sometimes the impression I get purely from browsing the marketplace froma gamers perspective. I think it's great that there's a place for stuff like this and if I had more spare time (and MS points to spend) I'd be interested in checking some of the stuff out. That said, I have enough trouble making the time to play my existing commercial games let alone try out loads of community games (or XBLA titles for that matter). I think it deserves more attention and promotion though. -

That's a shame - do you have any other examples of games that were 'broke'? I can go back to the XNA forums and raise it as an issue, as that's not good for consumers or developers.
Which were your favourites of the titles you downloaded? -

Broke: I should've written them down so I could be more helpfull now, I can't remember their names - but they got me quite angry, I can only remember the last one, the one that made me not go to Community for a few days... in anger.
My favourites: Weapon of Choice; Carneyvalle; Monaco 360 (high-score beating junkie...); JP Buiscuit Romp. -
From our little sample here, seems like people either don't use CGs at all, or use it a lot!
Can't wait to see more reports, it's all very interesting!
