That early stop is going to bite Hamilton on the bum

The doughnuts were a good send off for Alonso.

Great season that. First one for ten years I have actually watched every race. Usually I get bored after 4 or 5.

Losing the C4 coverage is a blow. They do a could job. Apart from Brundle, the whole C4 team is better than Sky.

After years of exposure on free to air, my kids generation are going to know fuck all about F1.

    QFT.

In other news Motorsport Manager 3 is 75% off for Android ATM. Seems pretty good. They've built a lot of features in since the first one.

Yep, in 10-20 years time they’ll be just as panicked as cricket, rugby etc are now about where the next generation is coming from.

I quite enjoyed that send off for Alonso at the end of the race. It's a shame Raikkonen retired and couldn't join in as well.

I can’t believe that after all of that, Hamilton won by 88 points. I reckon Ocon will replace bottas at some point over the next 12 months.

Why would they do that though? They've just won by a massive margin. I think they are very happy with Bottas being poor.

    @superdelphinus

It's the biggest margin of his five championships and easily been his best season. He has pretty much become the complete driver now. Tyre management is much better than his teammate's, lap to lap consistency is much better now than earlier in his career and he still has that blistering one lap pace and wheel to wheel instinct.

I've never been his biggest fan, but I've got to admit I can't really see any weaknesses in him at the moment. It would be interesting to see if he can maintain this imperious form if Mercedes become a little less competitive. I feel Ferrari didn't put him or Mercedes under enough pressure when they had the advantage earlier in the season.

I’m just thinking back to Bottas’ pre-season comments about how he could beat Hamilton this year. I know they kind of get forced into saying it, but I wonder if he’ll say the same again this pre-season?

Make no mistake, Bottas is exactly what they want. They've got the Barrichello character that will help keep them dominant. He showed a bit of fight early on at Merc but he's clearly broken now and just getting on with picking up the scraps off Lewis's table. If Rosberg were still at Mercedes this and probably last season, Vettel would have sailed away with the championship because Rosberg would have taken points off Hamilton left and right during the early part of the season when Vettel was winning.

I think that Ferrari's downfall next season is going to be them letting LeClerc have a proper crack at it while the Mercs subtly use Bottas to back people into Hamilton after pitstops etc. Unless these Red Bull Honda's deliver I think it could be over quite quickly next year.

hmm, I’m not quite so sure. If the best merc driver beats the best Ferrari driver by nearly 100 points, the constructors’ championship should have been wrapped up a lot easier than it was. Bottas ended up 5th?! Fair enough, their best driver is rather good, but still I think another season like that and they’ll definitely be wanting less of a gap, and more points from their no2 driver.

To be fair, if they’d let Bottas win the Russian GP he’d have finished 3rd in the championship

At the moment Bottas is the perfect number 2, but Merc need a succession plan. Hamilton could race for 10 year more years, or he could do a Rosberg and retire next week.

If Hamilton leaves Bottas is not the answer, so I would be very surprised if he got another season after 2019. Went backwards for too often this season.

I see that young girl who had the horrific F3 crash was able to walk out of hospital after her spinal surgery.

New season of formula E starting now on bbc red button/iplayer

New ‘gen’ of car. Don’t have To swap cars anymore 😂 and 50khp faster than the old cars. Seem to have some weird f zero thing going on where you be rewarded with extra horsepower if you use outside lines on certain parts of the track

The red button stream isn't working on my TV and the quality is dipping between watchable and terrible on my phone. Hopefully the service gets better as the racing looks pretty good.

The steam was ok through my ps4. That’s a complete balls up though if bbc couldn’t get the red button working though.

Good race. As ever it’s a bit unpredictable. Massa has a good first race. A shame he had to take a Penalty.

The bits I saw were actually fantastic so I hope they sort the issues out with the red button. I'll be watching the rest of this season closely, very promising.

It is so gamey, it's weird. Don't know if Vandoorne had an issue, if not his stock continues to tumble.

Just caught up on the race - don't forget it's live streamed on YouTube as well so you don't have to deal with shoddy BBC rubbish.

Decent racing as usual, and it didn't seem too dry considering we now don't have pit stops. The penalties were a shame if it's just from overpower on bumps. Felt bad for Lopez too as he seemed destined to lose the good result he was on for one way or another.

On the fence still with attack mode, it's actually not too complicated once you grasp it, but the race as a whole felt more complicated than it needed to be since there were clear technical issues on the production side.

Vandoorne qualified really well but who knows what the hell happened in the race, maybe there's some mitigating factor. Hopefully a podcast will fill me in :)

The mean streets of Stevenage. He hasn't been as bad in recent years, but those are the words of a twat.

I mean... it's clear what he's saying. It's an incredibly common thing to grow up feeling like where you live is crap. And he immediately clarifies that the word he used was an exaggeration. I can't believe they actually felt the need to pretend it was a news story, but then it's Hamilton so I guess we need to keep the narrative going of him being an arse.

Really clutching at straws though that one.
