He is a massive bellend for sure, but this is just Ham doing his bell end 'i wish i was born American' bullshit and using the word slums in place of estate.

Now having grown up in an estate, i can understand what he is talking about (to a degree, a slum is a much worse place for most of the world, but again he is Americanising it).

Also, its Hamilton - hes a bellend. Just one who is dedicated and super talented at driving fast.

I get that part of the problem is that he's seen ridiculous wealth around him, but in reality (thanks to his father's hard work) he was never exactly poor. I don't buy the Americanisation bit either. He's always quick to hype up just how tough it was for him growing up.

I lived there for a year, to be honest I didn't notice it being that bad.

Probably wasn't paying attention though. :)

    The old town is alright.

The rest of it is like a bigger High Wycombe. The Rocinha of Buckinghamshire.

The only thing keeping me with sky is F1. I think I'm going to ditch it since sky just seem to want to charge me whatever they feel like regardless of what I agreed with them.

Sob. It's been a long time coming, I will miss thee F1.

At the Upper Hutt Raceway for the Boxing Day demolition derby. Apparently they're going to try for the world record for most cars in a derby. Should be good.

Anyone watched the first race of the season in Formula E? It's the first time I've seen it. Why are they trying to make it like a video game?

Today’s Formula E Race is well worth a watch on the iPlayer. These Gen 2 cars make it much more watchable. Benefitted from the track actually been fairly quick rather than the usual hairpin fest.

Attack mode is weird, needs more thinking through, but I think it will become something good.

I just watched the 5 minute highlights on Youtube. Looked like a better race than the first one. Probably due to a better track layout, as you said. Mind you, both tracks have had that beach resort building site feel so far.

Aside from a few gimmicks, it's much more watchable and looks a bit more professional than the previous years mid race car change.
It's certainly developeing, which is, I think, a good thing.

Can the Formula E only be watched on the BBC?

Might look into it. I don't pay for a tv licence so don't help myself to iPlayer anymore.

They stick it on YouTube around a week after the race IIRC. I thought the first race was bad but this one was pretty good. It's the best track they go to all season though.

That was a great race, lots of drama. Attack mode seemed to work quite well this time.

Another decent Formula E race yesterday. Gen 2 cars are infinitely more watchable than Gen 1.

I like attack mode. Adds something to the race.

Will need to catch up. Only saw race 1 a while back.

    Alonso won Daytona eh?

So my wife told me that our Sky bill was £92 per month, so we're getting rid given that all we watch is F1, The Orville and Dinner Date. I've just signed up to the F1TV app for £6 per month and, after setting my VPN to say I'm in Luxembourg, am watching the 1996 Spanish GP. So I think (as long as I remember to use the VPN, and they don't twig as it is a breach of their Ts & Cs, obviously) that should have me sorted for the new season.

I do that with the MotoGP now. £110 a year for the app, VPN from Germany and I am sorted.

Only other option would be Sky Sports plus BT Sports, all to watch just the racing. Not worth it at all.

Yep enjoyed this one too. Some slightly daft penalties, including Di Grassi for his pole lap, but great racing again.

@Singularity So can you watch live races via VPN? If so I'm signing up. One thing with F1 fans is they are quite tech savvy, so this might be a well exploited loophole

@up_the_ante It seems so - as long as you (or your VPN) is not in a country that has a TV contract. Hence Luxembourg for me even though I'm in the UK. They have lists of what's available in each country on the website.

The MotoGP app doesn't care. Buy via German store on VPN, then just log in from UK apparently.

As long as they make money, and have a token effort to maintain that they sell within the area, they don't care.

Nobody cares about Alonso then, haha!

I use reddit for my F1 streams - not had an issue with them yet, normally Chromecast them to my TV

Trouble is, its Alonso in a 2 hour race I've never heard of, in the only car left in its class (so a default win as long as it finished), just like LeMans.

I'll be interested in him again when he does the Indy500.
