Headline: "What DOES it take for a film to get banned these days?"

Intro: "As censors approve a movie that plumbs grotesque new depths of sexual explicitness and violence, one critic (who prides himself on being broad-minded) despairs.."

Moment of fail: (5th paragraph) "I haven't seen it myself, nor shall I - and I speak as a broad-minded arts critic, strongly libertarian in tendency. But merely reading about Antichrist is stomach-turning, and enough to form a judgment."

That word he keeps using, I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

Brilliant. Utterly priceless. Do they ever read this stuff out loud to themselves before submitting it?

Can I ask what this film was? Just want to see what all the fuss is about!

THINK OF THE CHILDREN etc etc...
  • Deleted user 21 July 2009 13:20:26
Google it? Quicker than waiting for one of us to reply. And let me know what it says, will you? Don't know much about it myself.

Whenever the Daily Mail is outraged about a game/ film/ book/ tv show/ play, my interest in the title in question increases exponentially. I'll be watching Antichrist at the first opportunity!

    Fuck me that is bad.
I've read about it but nothing that looks too shocking tbh.

    Antichrist
here's how it goes down, more or less: After knocking him unconscious, Gainsbourg bores a hole in Dafoe's leg with a hand drill and bolts him to a grindstone to keep him from escaping. Then, she smashes his scrotum with some sort of blunt object (the moment of impact happens slightly below the frame). We don't actually see his testicles become disengaged from this body, though it's apparently implied. Next, she brings him to a climax with her hands and he ejaculates blood (yes, it's shown). But that's not all! Later, in an extreme closeup — lensed by Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle! — Gainsbourg cuts off her own clitoris with a pair of scissors.

    Antichrist

from it's wiki page (which won't access at the moment) i get the impression the problem is the torture and sexual context that comes with it. Personally i have no intention of ever watching it as it's not something i would enjoy but if you're a film critic then you can't just say what the Fail has without ever actually seeing the film.

I often like Lars Von Trier's work, but I think I'll be giving this one a miss. Sounds unpleasant. However, to call yourself broad-minded and deliver a firm 'judgement' without seeing the flick is utterly retarded.

    The criteria are:

To be under 30 on 15th September
To be from a visible ethnic minority
To not sue us for the above. Please, please don't sue.

Depends Smuggo, are you ginger, wear a kilt all the time, eat nothing but Haggis, and can play the bagpipes? I'd say that's "visibly ethnic minority", insofar as you'd be a visible stereotype of a Scottish person, who are a minority relative to the number of English people in the UK. If they refuse that logic sue and everyone wins \o/

Fucking hell. That really is the corporate equivalent of "I've got black friends you know".

I'm Swedish. There are only 8.6 million of us in the whole world. That makes me a minority doesn't it?
