Aye, it's a foul story all round, really. What it doesn't need is the press playing football with it, and making it into a class issue. Oh wait. |

George Osborne has just made the link even more explicitly than his Conservative colleagues. Following Philpott's sentencing, he said: "There's a question about the welfare state, and taxpayers who pay, subsidising lifestyles like that". -
How many families exist in that situation (sans murderous plots)?
How many, is that, Georgie? Oh. -

Registered 8 years agoSome stats from the article:
At present, just four per cent of families with a parent on Jobseeker's Allowance have more than two children. And, of course, the identity of those families is in constant flux: only 1.5 per cent of those on benefits have never worked.
So, yeah. The usual business of falsehoods about the welfare system for (surely) ideological reasons. I'm absolutely sick of it. It seems to get worse by the day. -

Registered 7 years agoI wonder how much coverage the measles outbreak is getting, giving Dacre and co were a prime cause. Presumably very little indeed. Maybe they could do a retrospective interview with Wakefield or something.
If social harm was a crime, Dacre would be in cell right next to Philpott, and wouldn't be out for a thousand years. Cunting cunt, as he likes to call his staff. -
I hadn't heard of an outbreak til this morning, which is odd. Been on BBC since early March... -

Registered 13 years agoYes THE LEFT will hijack it. The dirty filthy LEFT! Only disgusting lefties would think that people on benefits are anything other than scrounging, drug-addled murderers.
The frightening thing is how many buy into this rhetoric. I know lots of otherwise sensible people that blame our economic woes on the imaginary hordes collecting benefits while having loads of kids.

Could do without the 23 kids though. -

Registered 14 years agoThe left will try to hijack the result, genius rhetoric!
So if the result is that "Osborne's a twat" is was because of the dirty left fixing it, but if the result is "Osborne's right on!" then us normal hard working folk who spend an inordinate amount of time lamenting the ills of society won one over them! Win win. -

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2308332/Cuba-sunshine.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Dawn is breaking in Puerto Argentino, the town its former inhabitants once knew as Port Stanley. At the tiny airport, a gigantic mural commemorates the soldiers from the mainland who lost their lives in the battle for the Malvinas, or the Falklands, as they used to be called.
...but I like Cuba. Viva la revolucion!
Next to the old Anglican cathedral (now Catholic), a gigantic blue and white flag flutters. In the square nearby, a statue of General Leopoldo Galtieri gazes impassively out to sea.
Today, in 2013, the world remembers General Galtieri as one of the defining personalities of the Eighties, a strong leader who, by recapturing the Malvinas, set his stamp on the age.
For Britain, however, it was a dreadful decade — perhaps the worst in our modern history, and one that set the tone for years to come.

Is it something you need to live in London to get; "The Gherkin isn't behind St Pauls", or something more obvious?

Registered 14 years agoBut why do that? How difficult would it be to show an actual funeral shot? Or were there restrictions on takIng pics from there and they wanted a unique one? -
I dunno, it's a bit weird because there are photos of the streets lined with people that should meet their agenda. -

Registered 14 years agoI think the Sun used the same picture yesterday, and were comparing it with a near identical one of Churchill's funeral. -
Well for a start that is The Sun. -
And as X201 said isn't that The Gherkin, rather than the Shard?

It's actually this which they are nicknaming the cheese grater.
