Scotland not being an embarrassment is good for me. One day we'll come top. We must be due soon.
If we can carry on winning at home and actually manage to win an away game that isnít Italy, then we will be in the mix. Next season we have Italy at home first (virtually never happens) and France away in game 3, which gives us a shot at the away win. Sadly we have the Irish at home in game 2 and I suspect our win streak at home will end there. We also finish at Twickenham, where we are always shit even when England are rubbish.

I swear the French national team are gonna be up for a huge match fixing investigation. With the size of the pack they selected they were always going to have a lull but fuuuuu...

Decent stuff from Scotland earlier apart from a few things late on.

England are right on it now though. Ireland were a bit lucky with decisions early on but that reversed later so pretty even. Henshaw hasn't flourished at FB at all but might yet. I love these high-intensity games, it's like the Ire-NZ game recently but in reverse. High stakes, high passion, low(-ish, relative to intensity) error count.

This is a great game. England have edged it but it can go either way at the moment

    Ballsack.

2 possible forward passes there and a single call on the the kick. We had calls last year that went our way though. Can't see a win from here.

Absolute gold from Slade for that try.

No harm for a reality check for us maybe. It doesn't feel like as big a loss as it is.

Top stuff from England though, just in time for a WC.

    Yep.

Last year felt disproportionately poor though for England so this is a return to the norm a bit, a bit of extra drive, a bit of over-confidence maybe from Ireland.

I wouldn't be too concerned from our point of view, England getting confidence is not to be ignored though.

Also, I'm not sure Mako gets enough kudos in our press but he will now. Solid as fuck, with extra on top.

Are the English press suitably loving?

Incredible result, especially considering Ireland didnít have too bad a game. Dalyís incredible, and May had the best game Iíve seen from him

The Guardian donít even mention him in their write up

    Ah, fucking hell.

Although the Guardian's coverage of rugby is sometimes, eh, enthusiastic and centered on copy over any deep knowledge. They might get there in the end.

Mako is a beast though. And with a low penalty count in the last couple of years.

Yeah heís tidied up the loose ends in his game to back up his monster hits and powerful carries, really like him. I think he does get overlooked a lot by the press though, probably the old boys who write it not liking a foreigner getting more plaudits than the nice English lads

I think it all tied in with Ben Youngs getting injured against Italy on the second weekend. It really did look like a different team without him.

Poor last 10 from Scotland after bossing the game up to that point. We were a man down, but it looked more like loss of concentration.

The really annoying thing is that Hogg scored an amazing try and had it harshly ruled out.

Still, we traditionally struggle in our first game, this is the first time we have ever had Italy at home first up, and itís a BP win.

The difference with England for me, was they weren't getting turned over in tackles/rucks. Seems to have never a weak point over the last few seasons.

    :D

It's incredible how often he loses the head.
Farrell is growing, gonna get the vote for the best player in the world at some point. Maybe this year.

Not entirely convinced by that last England try. Are you allowed to hang on to your opponent like that?

Hard to prove thatís what he was doing rather than scrabbling to get up. Neither of them were getting to the ball anyway so itís moot
