Quality match there, i'm going to text abuse to my french rugby loving friend.

Well well, what an odd game. France in the second half were pretty good but England just looked more dangerous throughout most of the game. What happened to the French team that were much better against Wales? They played a great game then but against England they looked awful for all but fifteen minutes in the second half.

I think a lot of credit has to go to the forwards, they stole a great deal of ball at the breakdown and I think that led to the heavy points scoring in the first half. Still, second half was pretty even as far as it goes. It was confident performance from England for the most part and I thought they probably let the gas off in the second half a bit which may account for the score not being higher.

Should be interesting to see what England do against Scotland, they've been looking progressively more impressive so it should be a good match. I think England will have to proove themselves there to really indicate a turn around.

Henson back in for the Ireland game:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/welsh/7944985.stm

I'm getting excited already, the thought of beating the Irish is almost as exciting as winning a slam for some reason. Winning by over 13 points seems too much of an ask though...

Merlinho - we have no chance or winning by 13 points. Surprised Henson is playing after his mouthiness this week.

I have a ticket for the game! Feels a bit of an anticlaimax now though given Wales' poor performances recently.

I'm a bit nervous about this one. After a great start to the tournament, our last two performances against England and Scotland were severely lacklustre. If we put in a similar performance against Wales we'll be in trouble.

Although saying that, Wales haven't exactly looked to sharp either.

It could potentially be the worst championship decider ever ;)

No ticket for me but I will be in Cardiff at some point, unsure whether I'll be in for the game or later in the evening.

I have faith that we can put on a performance, we need to revert to those 20 minutes against Scotland. I just feel that there is a big point to prove, and I'd love it if we came out anything like England did against France.

We should do better now we've actually got a front 5 again instead of those idiots we had in Rome (well 4 idiots and AWJ), and Dafydd Jones is no longer in the team. Phillips really needs to improve though, he's been distinctly average.

They didn't deserve it in the end, but that said, Wales didn't deserve to take it away from them. Well done Ireland.
  • Deleted user 21 March 2009 19:27:05
We should've shut them out long before that. Great performance but too many penalties.

I haven't enjoyed the excitement in a game like this for a long time. Congratulations to Ireland. Thouroughly deserved. O'Driscol to lead the lions for sure!

Well done Ireland, I'm genuinely please for you :)

Discipline aside, I thought England had a good tournament overall - finished second, scored the most points, conceded the least and might have even been the top try scorers.

JuanKerr - I disagree (as an Englishman). I am pleased that we came second, but I certainly don't think we deserved to finish there. It's a tired point now but the discipline was terrible throughout. These men are professional, they (should) know the rules and yet time after time they push these rules to breaking point. Not all of them, but the same culprits crop up time after time. Rugby (at international level - certainly not at local level!!!) has always been all about sportsmanship and fair play. Admittedly things did get better as the tournament went on, but even yesterday, we gave away more penalties than we should have done.

That said, one of the best tournaments for pure excitement for a number of years and a thouroughly deserved Irish slam. Can't wait for the Lions now, the quality of players across all 4 teams is going to make selecting that squad very tough indeed.

/edit - sorry JuanKerr - just re-read your post - 'Discipline aside' yeah a reasonable English tournament I suppose.

    Great weekend of sports \o/

Ireland Win the Grand Slam (up yours Gatland). Pity about all the stupid penalties we gave away. Really should have won it by more. Absolutely nerve wracking right to the very last second.

    Man U lost
    Chelski lost
Laois beat Fermanagh in the Football
Burke, Lee, and Dunne all won their fights. The Dunne fight was a cracker.
Liverpool hopped five shades of shite out of Villa today

'grats to Ireland. Unfortunately had to turn down a ticket to Twickenham on Sat, all a bit of a cock up there. Good fun drinking round the ground beforehand though

Looking forward to the games this weekend?

Glad to see justice has been done and Lee Byrne will play. We now have a Facebook campaign to allow him to play in the 16 shirt ;)

Can't see Wales winning the tournament this year, but hoping for a better show than last year, you never know if we get the first win under our belts...

Should be a good open tournament - have to put Ireland as favourites again (and Wales don't stand a chance against them in Dublin) - but could go any way. I'm not confident we can beat England on Saturday at Twickenham either, but what with players returning from injury and Lee Byrne allowed to play we should be in for a close one.

Last year wasn't bad - OK we came fourth but I was at the last game against Ireland and I seem to recall if we'd beaten them by 9 points or whatever we'd have won the championship. And we were far from outplayed in that game.

I live in London now and I'm resigned to watching it at my rugby club on Saturday after my game with 60 odd England fans. Not gonna be fun!
