Registered 15 years agoAwww, I've just sold my Wii after not even turning it on in eight months and then this comes along. It looks really, really good. -
it's a bit like one big interactive cutscene. If Valve made a lightgun game, it would be like this. -

Registered 13 years agojust started playing the game and very impressed, Ive completed dead space on 360 4 times but didnt really care for the story but its great to see some of the old areas in this from before you arrived in the other game and its not just mindless shooting,
The trouble is, was only 10 minutes in (just after you get the stasis module and cross the bridge) and a bug in the game stopped me continuing, just over the bridge there a zombie to the left and right i think your supposed to look around but i couldnt and the were both just off screen, managed to kill one but couldnt shoot the other so couldnt carry on.
Also Ive only got the first gun so far but they dont make the sounds of the originals when ytou shoot them and feel a bit rubbish,
Still, Ill give it another go at some point soon looks good ! -

Registered 14 years agoGot this yesterday and have to say I am very impressed, although I will say that it is better if you have played the original simply because it makes the story that much more exciting. Controls are accurate, graphics are top-notch (for the Wii) and the whole setting/story/atmoshere is excellent.
Couple of gripes, voice acting is dreadful, really cheesy and cliched and it crashed on me at the end of the second chapter, although next time around it was fine.
Great twist at the end of chapter 1 btw, at the moment a solid 7/10 and hopefully will get better as I go along -
it was meant to come out this Friday, but the message got mixed up somewhere. Apparently it's just not on sale in some places.
I guess all the marketing they need was the brand awareness anyway. -

Registered 14 years agoYeah, is a shame but in a way it kinda shows how Nintendo whilst not shooting themselves in the foot have kinda shot 3rd parties in the foot when it comes to more mature games, they just don't sell. This game again (like others) is perfect for the Wii, it wouldn't work as well on the other two simply because of the controls BUT this really suggests that the demographic of Wii owners is such that only party/children and 1st party games are really going to sell in big numbers -

Maybe that's because they are the only games that get decent sized ad campaigns. I saw loads of tv ads for Dead Space 360/PS3...none at all for the Wii game.
If you want your hardcore Wii games to sell you have to advertise (that goes for Nintendo as well as 3rd parties). -
TV advertising is only 1/10th of marketing.

Registered 19 years agoHave tried Tesco, Morrisons not in stock, which surprised me.
I'm guessing that this is going to take a drop in price fairly soon ? -
like I said, some places aren't stocking until this Friday. The launch was ballsed up. Sainsbury's didn't have stock either, but HMV did. -

That sentence is amazing praisal.
I put Madworld on Amazon after 30 minutes of amazingly boring play just recently and am looking forward to finally giving HotD: Overkill a spin, but before I do, I am still waiting for thehut to deliver my gun thingie.
Edit:
And I forgot to add: "And now I am looking forward to this even more."

it's praise if you think Valve's cutscene method is good. -

Registered 17 years agoI took it you were saying this is about the best possible lightgun game. As that's what you were sactually saying: "If Valve made a lightgun game, it would be like this". As far as I know all Valve games are thought out extremely well and are even among the best of all times, aren't they?
Anyway, Crispy Gamer seems to agree with you, giving this a "Fry it". Though the original Dead Space also ended up with a "Try it", which is near blasphemy. -
well, it probably is one of the best possible lightgun games, unless you're a weird professional arcade gamer who likes point blank.
I was just using the valve example to give an impression of how the game feels. -

I think it's excellent, so that's high praise as far as I'm concerned. -

Registered 15 years agoLooks like the AU release came in dribs and drabs, doesnt look like many copies were shipped at release as a bunch of online retailers have pushed availability back. Useless distributors and everyone else involved! -

Registered 14 years agoPlayed a bit more and it is getting better, paced perfectly, has lost a bit of the suspense of the original but there are still places where nothing happens for a while but you are very tense expecting something at any moment.
Another cool thing which I had forgot, the script was written (and the script for the comic which is great btw) by a kid I was very good friends with in school, is kinda weird but great seeing someone you know whose name on the credits! -

Registered 13 years agoExpanding on a point I made in the HotD thread about publishers not pushing Wii games and then complaining that they don't sell, I had some games I wanted to trade in so went to HMV with the intention of picking this up. Considering it was only out on Friday, I was expecting it to be placed prominently among the Wii games at least, but I eventually found it languishing on the bottom shelf below shovelware titles. I popped into GameStation and it was the same there, so clearly not just HMV being silly. Considering the weight EA have in the games industry, you'd think that even if they're not willing to support the game with advertising then they'd shell out enough to have the game put in a reasonably decent place on the shop shelves! -
really tempted by this after the Edge review - hope the franchise keeps up a pace as DS on 360 was awesome. Good to see some 8+ reviwes coming in as 360 DS reviews tended to focus on the negative points which was a shame (yeah the meteor blaster bits were uncalled for as was the 'basketball' bit) -

Hell yes.
The UK is cheap for videogames. -

Registered 18 years agoJust finished it, nice game. Good story arc, plenty of tension and strong characters, but quite repetitive in terms of action. Lacks interesting weapons too, with only a handful of any real use, and far too many which take an age to power up. Special mention to the surprising moment near the end of the game - (slashing your arm off!!). Nice bonus material in the shape of brilliant comics.
As a pure on-rails shooter, I wouldn't say it's as good as Ghost Squad or HOTD - the length of the levels (mostly 20-30 mins - a few longer, a handful shorter) means there's not much replayablity, and the challenge mode is crying out for online leaderboards. -

Registered 15 years agoJust started this, 3 chapters in and loving it. The atmosphere is fantastic and tension is great. I do agree a little with the weapons, so far the arent exciting and feel weak as piss! But that only adds to the tension! Great so far! -

Registered 16 years agoOops. Things aren't going so well for this. I was surprised to find this a non-charter, in the UK Wii software charts. I thought that it would be in there somewhere, at least. -

Registered 14 years agoWell don't agree with the writer but yes, is a shame as this is a great game but the sales on this will pretty much decide the direction EA will go with the Wii -
Well it doesnt involve waggling, or ponies, so it was never going to do well on Wii.
