for some reason...possibly playing Pole's Big Adventure has done this to me.
Someone really needs to do a clever FPS parody on the Wii which uses the wiimote held vertically to simulate a right-hand analogue stick... -

What made you say that? Is that how The Polish Adventure is played? -

Registered 13 years agoI just occurred to me, given that many of the console FPS fans claim the dual analogue control is the dog's peanuts, what better way to take the piss out of FPS games than to force Wii users to experience an inferior control mechanic and neuter the wiimote by reducing it to an analogue stick for camera control/aiming?
Pole's Big Adventure is played like the 8-bit NES games it resembles, but it made such an impression on me I feel that a lot of games need to be taken down a peg with a really good parody. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm playing the PC version at the moment which seems to be an xbox360 port. As a result the geometry and textures don't really look all that impressive, on the other hand there are a few areas that have really amazing lighting and of course the sound design is fantastic.
What really impressed me was the lightning fast load, save and restart times. So fast that I thought the save was broken the first time I used it.
So I can't see any reason for the wii version to be rubbish - this isn't Crysis we're talking about. The art design is excellent but the constraints that the artists were working with are due to the ship interior location; black, brown and rectangular. I haven't seen more than 3 necromorphs at one time. -

Registered 16 years agoDead Space Wii = Dead Space: Extraction. An exclusive prequel chapter for Wii, which focusses on what happens before Clarke reaches the Ishimura! It's in first-person, too.
Dead Space Extraction will marry the innovative motion controls of the Wii Remote with a frenetic first person perspective to create a new action-packed horror experience.
Sounds good. source.
Dead Space Extraction tells the story of a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space. The game introduces a new heroine to the fiction and as the crew fall victim to a mysterious contagion aboard the ship, it becomes clear that protecting her may be their only hope for survival. Dead Space Extraction introduces all new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and co-operative multiplayer gameplay. -

a) to save polygons for the game itself
b) because with the wii pointer you'd be able to point at the back of your own head. I don't think the Wii controls suit third-person pointing that well. -

Because FPS=hardcore game these days, apparently. That fact alone makes this wait-and-see for me as I find FPS gaming to be generally tedious. -

Its like House of the Dead Overkill. Its not an FPS. -

How? Have you read the article? It doesn't say anything about it being a lightgun game; in fact the reference to "puzzles" would seem to argue against it. -

certainly still better than what I expected, a half-assed port of the PS360 version. -

Registered 16 years agoIf the full experience measures up to that trailer, this will be preordered and purchased; although, I'll be surprised if the pacing stays as tense as that. It would be incredible if they can make it an all-out edge of the seat thrill ride, and they're able to put the player in the role of their character (much like the way that menus were handled, for instance in Dead Space, the focus there being to keep the player AS Clarke, not allowing him/her to jump out to a detached menu at will). -

Registered 16 years agoI'm impressed with those visuals in the video. Though as long as they stuck to the same style they were alway going to be at least passable.
I'm not sold on it as a rail-shooter though, RE:UC is one of my least favourite RE games because of it, and as far as rail shooters go there are a few great ones already on Wii. Even Samurai Warriors was shoehorned into one! -
I think it's an FPS -

Registered 16 years agoEA's tried explaining its thinking behind the design of this:
“Extraction is not your typical Rail Shooter. Our goal is to innovate and push the genre forward like Dead Space did for third-person action survival horror.
source.
When we started designing the game we had a ton of important elements from Dead Space that we needed to retain:
1. Exciting and rewarding gameplay
2. A horrific experience set in visually stunning environments
3. Incredible mood and sound
4. A mature and thought provoking story
5. Unique, terrifying, and satisfying enemies, weapons and bosses
Creating an intimate horror experience is a central tenet for Extraction and moving to a first person perspective felt like a great fit for the Wii allowing us the ability to create the most intense experience possible on this platform.” -

it's quite a terrible list in the context of the criticisms, but I expect that it's not actually in response to the criticisms at all, just standard prepared soundbites. I assume a proper response will be here soon enough.
