Registered 14 years agoThis comes up every year or so. Not sure what I put last time but something like:
Ivan Ironman Stewart's Super Off Road Racing
Sensible Soccer
Super Mario Kart
Secret of Mana
Goldeneye
Ocarina of Time
Advance Wars
Resident Evil 4
Super Mario Galaxy
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Usual caveats - most of those games have been superseded (MK8 is best MK) but they had an amazing impact at the time.
I'm still putting Goldeneye at 1. -

Syndicate Wars
Thief Deadly Shadows
Dishonored
System Shock 2
Command & Conquer, early series
Supreme Commander
Final Fantasy 7
Sims 1
Simcity 4000
Total War: Shogun 2
Soul Calibur 2
Bloodbourne
Monkey Island 3
Journey
Dungeon Keeper
Knights of the old Republic
Diablo 3, (eventually)
Overwatch.
Wildly different genres, but these would be my top picks for most of them. Top of their class games that have left me at the time, with a feeling of accomplishment, novelty and perfection after finishing them as an experience, rather than just another game as a product to be consumed.

Registered 14 years agoMy younger self would say FFVII is the best game ever but I've outgrown that. In fact it's probably not even the "best" Final Fantasy. It's just my favourite, simple as that. Can't quantify it or explain it. Just is.
My original copy is framed in the game room... mainly because the PAL version was fucking dreadful anyway

You have fantastic taste sir!.gif)
Came so close to putting a sentimental choice, a childhood favourite: Zool! But that would probably have been the rose tinted glasses. -

@SomaticSense took a look at your list. Every one that I've played would make it onto my top 50 (there's a lot of games
)!
The ones I haven't;
Gunstar Heroes
Ikaruga (does phone count? No, I guess it doesn't...)
Mario Galaxy 2 (could easily get it for Wii U...)
Halo 3 (never had an XBox)
Jet Set Radio Future (I wanted a Dreamcast so badly as a kid. Never got one
. I played Power Stone on PSP though and suspect that would be on my list if I'd played it on Dreamcast)
Rez Infinite (waiting for VR price to drop. One day)
Mass Effect 2 (I must admit, I never liked Shepherd)
Bayonetta 2 (have it on Wii U, waiting for a spare month to lose myself to it)
KotOR (it's on mobile! May take a look)
Ridge Racer (PS racing was all about Wipeout for me)
Streets of Rage 2 would go straight into my top 10. Coop games like that need to come back! -
It's all entirely subjective and very dependent on the time frame but here's my list:
- Arkanoid.
- Tetris.
- Elite: Frontier (yes I rate it higher than the original)
- Ultima 7.
- Starcraft.
- Diablo 2.
- Knights of the Old Republic.
- Morrowind.
- Half-life 2.
- World of Warcraft.
- Both Portal games.
- Bioshock Infinite (sod off haters)
- Witcher 3.
- The entire Civilization franchise. -

Nothing like 3D isometric pixels the size of chickpeas to get the rough and gritty feel of a dystopian metropolis pat down. The original Syndicate was just far too clean.

Registered 9 years agoMetal Gear Solid 3 (although 4 and 2 amd 1 could go here as well)
MGS Peace Walker (best handheld game I've ever played bar none)
Mario Kart 8 (best karting game I've played but very honourable mention to Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed)
Gran Turismo 4 (getting this home and popping it in on release day is a moment I'll never forget)
Just Cause 2 (so many hours of just fucking around)
GTA V (see above but also with multiplayer)
F1 Championship Edition (justified a PS3 on its own for me)
Mass Effect 2 (despite never finishing the other two)
Uncharted Drake's Fortune for the initial holy shit moment, U4 for being just incredible
Guitar Hero 3/Rock Band 2 for all the local MP fun
Road Trip Adventure for being the best JRPG without humans, or combat
