Registered 17 years agoThe Frighteners might be a good choice. Nothing with Michael J. Fox can be too scary. -

Registered 15 years agoWrong Turn is an under-rated gem. You can never go wrong with a chase film involving hillbillies. Just don't watch the second one. -

Wow, there is actually a film by that name. I just made that up. -

Tale of Two Sisters
In my opinion the best horror film there is. More of a thought provoking film than one which relies on cheap scares.
Oh yes, this is a great film and one I am happy to have in my collection.
Not seen it for a while actually so may have to put it on soon. -
An American Werewolf in London.
Not too scary, enjoyable enough to watch time and time again. -
The transformation scene is still superb. Might not be perfect, but still better than anything CGI could come up with, in my opinion. -
It's just a brilliant film. So funny without ever needing to signpost the jokes, and really quite scary in places as well, without ever being unpleasant. It's the perfect horror film really. Plus Jenny is lovely. -
Can't go wrong with a film that has Agutter nudity. -

Saw Eden Lake last week, and while I thought the film was just wrong on every level, I can definitely recommend it. Very entertaining.
EDIT: Actually that's an old recommendation and one that's already made just before your post lol

Saw Frozen last night. Quite enjoyed it - pretty tense and re-affirmed my belief that all forms of cold weather can fuck right off!! -

Registered 13 years agoI enjoyed the remake of The Crazies. -
Wanna watch a horror movie with the other half tonight. So far on my shortlist is:
The Crazies
Jacob's Ladder
Mothman Prophecies
Pet Semeary
Salem's Lot
Session 9
Arachnophobia
Can't decide! -
Or Nightwatch (the Nick Nolte/McGregor film). Too much choice! -
There was a supplement with the top 25 horror films in The Guardian today.
Think I'll check out Audition and Peeping Tom. -

I found Mothman Prophecies more soporific than horrific. Arachnophobia = Cheese. But I guess it depends if you're scared of spiders. I'm not.
I'd opt for Jacob's Ladder, or Salem's Lot has some charm on account of it's age. It has one moment in particular that always makes my skin crawl. -

Registered 15 years agoI think if you're looking for horror flicks, you're better off going old skoolz.
Stuff like Poltergeist, Exorcist, Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. The new ones are decidedly meh, imo. Although, The Ring and such aren't so bad.
Have no idea where people are getting that Mothman Prophecies is a horror flick. It isn't scary in the slightest. -
Rec is a good recent horror film, IMO. The thought of the last ten minutes still makes me sick with fear.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is also a good pick. Not particularly violent by today's standards, but much like Rec, it's the finale that makes it. Petrifying. -

Registered 15 years agoNever heard of Rec. That's its name... just Rec?
The reason I say to go old school is because most of the newer films try to add all of that trashy-looking CGI and it just isn't scary. I mean, I know the stuff coming out of the chick's mouth in The Exorcist isn't real gew, but at least it isn't a computer generated image of gew. -
[REC] its usually typed as, as in 'Record' because its a 'found footage' movie. [REC] 2 is great as well.
Cronos is on film 4 in a few minutes and thats excellent.
