Registered 17 years ago@billythekid cheers. I really need to learn how to use Lightroom. Looked at it a few times and have no idea what I'm doing. -

Registered 7 years agoI mostly use the convenience of Lightroom on my friggin phone...
I can wirelessly transmit photos from my DSLR to my phone straight after a shoot, and then add them to my Lightroom folders using the app, which is almost feature intact (for what I use anyway).
I can even print directly to my canon pixma printer from the phone. -

Registered 12 years agoI can recommend On1 Photo Raw as a Lightroom alternative if you don't want all the Adobe subscription bullshit.
I've started a new series called National Trust People -

The last "update" of my Lightroom 6 replaced it (without my consent) with the cloud version, to which I have now had to subscribe if I wanted to use it. Lightroom 6 has entirely disappeared from the adobe app where my licenses are stored. I cannot redownload it.
There also is no obvious download link for Lightroom 6 anymore on Adobe's homepage. I can only re*buy* it. Even if I am logged in.
It's quite incredible, really. I am now looking for an alternative because I am not going to subscribe. -

Registered 17 years agoHave you still got that wacky Sigma camera with the mad sensor? -
Yeah. .gif)
I will never get rid of that one. I recently did a shootout with a mate who has an a7r (the second one, not the latest), and the Sigma "won". It's quite ridiculous. There's just nothing like it. Even the two newer Sigma generations were one step forward, two steps back.
There's a guy on Flickr who exclusively uses the Sigma DP cameras. I want to live his life:

Which model is it specifically?
My shitty work laptop screen doesn't do those any justice -
I have the DP2 Merrill. Difficult to get these days, I dread the day it breaks down.
Not that I use it all the time, but it's comforting to know it's there.
Sigma's latest with that sensor are the two Quattros:
https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/sd-series/
They had teething problems, but I think they are supposed to be quite good now. It's telling that Luminouswest still uses the pre-pre-decessors (the Merrills) a lot, though... -

Registered 17 years agoI really want one of those DP2 Merrill's but quite honestly I don't go to enough beautiful places to make it worthwhile. I'm not sure anyone needs to see Reading in such detail
-
There is high-resolution beauty to be found in the backstreets of Reading I am sure! .gif)
Mind, it's not (or was not) a particularly expensive camera, I paid 600 EUR or so at the time. A mate recently bought one second hand for half of that. They get rarer, but you can still get lucky. -

Couple of my India shots, mostly the safari ones. with (wild) TIGERS!
Was first trip with my 16-300mm Tamron lens, which on an APS-C let’s you get quite close up!! Good for travelling, but I generally prefer prime lenses, as I like taking picture of people with bokeh, and also because at the amount of money I spend on lenses (at bottom end), the image quality is better on the primes...
