But then I'd also like and XT-3 and a Nikon Z6

Registered 7 years agoVery nice, looks like the x100 puts out some great pics!
I've just replaced my aging entry level canon dslr - I wanted something with better autofocus and light sensitivity to take pictures of the wee bairn. I considered going with a fixed lens (I am a prime man myself), but the wife wanted to be able to zoom as well, so I ended up with a Sony mirrorless. -

I am toying with the idea of buying a 7D mk 2 to replace my current 60D. -

Registered 8 years agoI'm going old school this year. Ordered a darkroom kit! I was given a old enlarger a few years ago and I never got round to doing anything with it but fancied getting back into it. Just need some chemicals and a couple of tables and I should be good to go.
Got a file with some old negatives I shot in my first year at uni when I went to Paris almost 15 years ago *yikes* So will go through them and then pick up a camera too at some point. I gave my old film camera away to a friend who fancied getting into photography.
I always had a dream of setting up a public darkroom so I may even see about doing some workshops or teach a couple of friends and see if I could set it up as something I could earn money from or have a communal photography place where at least a few people could develop and print. -

I’m currently batch processing 10,000 raw files through lightroom and converting to jpeg for storage (I don’t really need the raw files). It’s been running for 12 hours so far. Hopefully my laptop won’t catch on fire before it’s finished -

I was thinking lately it would be cool to get back into film. I miss my various cameras & lenses. It’s just such a money pit. Some of my best photos were from my Olympus OM1 and OM2. Its a shame for the old guys to be sat up there on the shelf -

Registered 15 years agoAny tips on macro lenses. I have an EOS200D, and have seen a preowned Canon EF-S 60mm for £160 but also considering a Sigma 105mm (which also has optical stabilisation) (which is available new for £299 at the moment). The camera has 1.6 crop factor APSC sensor and macro is one of the reasons I decided to move onto ILCs. I am not really a tripod user if I can help it (night shots an obvious exception) so the OS could be worthwhile. I like the idea of both photographing small inanimate objects and also insects, will the 60mm be too short for the latter?
Obviously I need to check condition of the preowned lens first but thought I would ask in case anyone had mich macro lens experience here. I have tried Googling it but still not quite sure as I hear 100mm is a nice focal length but the 60mm has some good reviews too.
And yeah, it is a gallery thread but this might help me take some shots worth sharing (still pretty much getting the hang of the manual modes on my camera) and this is the main active thread in this subsection of the forum so I thought I would take the chance. -

Registered 7 years ago@One_Vurfed_Gwrx have you got the Canon 50mm already?
That is 50*1.6 = 80mm equivalent on the 200D’s APS-C sensor.
Loved that little lens on my 600D, and only 50 quid new when I got it a few years back. Not quite the length you seem to want, but it was pretty decent for pictures of bugs!

Registered 15 years ago@Technoishmatt Yeah, I do have that. Currently got the kit lens (18-55STM), 50mm STM (latest version of the lens) and 10-18mm (i fancied something wide so went wide before telephoto which I still have a superzoom compact to use for now). Never thought of using the 50mm for insects though, my initial thoughts were using it for light but the focal length is a bit long for a lot of stuff in that field. -

Registered 17 years agoQuestion: After a lot of photoshopping I quite like this image. But why is there a death star in the sky. Pretty sure it wasn't there when I took the photo.

Registered 17 years agoConsidered all of that but nothing similar appears in the other shots I took at the same time or over the rest of the week. Weird.
I'll go with a death star being momentarily uncloaked. -

It's lens flare from the long exposure of the electric lights, you have several others going across the sky.

Registered 17 years agoI got a film developed yesterday, from a festival in the summer. I quite like this one, taken with an Olympus Trip on expired film. This is a photo of the print using my iphone as my scanner died.

Paging UncleLou to the thread. I have questions about your Sigma DP2
I would have PM'd you however the overlords have ruled on that.

Registered 17 years agoYay! Well I went ahead and bought one (DP2 Merrill).
I wondered what your workflow was, whether you shoot RAW or jpeg, and if RAW I wondered if you process first in Sigma's own software or if you convert to DNG (or what) and import that way. And if you used Lightroom. -
I want to see pictures from it either way.
