| I've got a license for Capture One, which is basically Lightroom, but better, IMO/E. It's a little pricy, but you get a free upgrade to the next major version release and no sub (although there's also an option to sub). |

Really tempted again to get a used 5D1, but would I use it?? Argh!
I took my old 5D out today for the first time in actual years. I was going to have my Canon 50mm 1.4 repaired (again) but for less than half the cost I got a 50mm 1.8 STM and it is GREAT. God I forgot how good the 5D is, such natural look to the images without having to really do anything to the RAW files. It feels so good in the hand as well, so familiar. OK it's a brick but the controls are instinctive. It's never going to be my go-to camera (X100F for that) but there's just something about it. Canon got it right with that one. -

That one plus the ones from Yosemite were taken with the Sigma DP2. I think you can see the difference / the depth compared with other cameras. The detail is ridiculous.... -

Registered 17 years agoI like the idea of full editing software within the camera, although I wonder how practical to use it is... In camera AI is another thing I'm cautiously looking forward to.
Anyway, I took a walk up the Long Mynd in the Shropshire Hills a couple of weekends ago and encountered these wild welsh ponies.
I'm really pleased with how they turned out... possibly my favourite portraits of the year to date in fact!
Oh and one of them is pretending to be a unicorn!

Registered 18 years agoBack from a trip to Lisbon where I really put my new Panasonic GX9 to the test. I'm absolutely loving it.
It also has this lurvely black an white setting that has finally made me go "Yeah, BW photos are nice". Sadly I was constantly underexposing my photos after having seen some inspirational YouTUbe videos telling me to protect my highlights.
Oh well, live and learn.

That Venice Beach shot is remarkable - if I'd taken that, the girl and everything in the room would be in silhouette.
Was that all in-camera to get that result, or was there much post-processing electrickery?
Edit - Been looking through the rest of your Flickr stream.
Yeah, I'm just going to give up photography now...

Maybe one of you can help me with a problem I have.
When I'm out travelling I don't want to bring my laptop but I'd still love to be able to upload my photos to Google Photos.
I'd love it if there was a device the size of a deck of cards where I could plug in the SD card and then set it up using my hone so that all the images were uploaded. I've seen some wireless SDcard readers but I don't want to put the pictures on my phone first and then back them up.
How do you guys solve this? Do you bring laptops tablets or is there some nifty solution I'm missing?
