Does anyone know what the cheapest new car currently available in the UK is?

If we find out, could anyone shed light on whether said car would be better than certain used cars of the same price?

    Thanks for your help.

No worries. Go for something a year or two old - if you can get credit, there are some amazing deals to be had at the moment.

You'll get a hell of a lot of car for 4k. Can I recommend a Ford Puma, plus insurance for a little more than half of that.

    +1

Ford Pumas are excellent cars and surprisingly economical on long journeys on 60mph roads.

Plus they go like shit off a fucking shovel if you want.

Gf is thinking about buying a soft top MG tf 1.8, 2002. She's worried about getting parts for it. Anyone here got an MG? Is it pain to buy them?

    Bump!

I'm planning on getting my licence soon, automatic that is. Trust me, I'm too shit to pass in a manual.

Can anyone recommend me a good car to look for second hand? Max 1500 I reckon. At the moment I'm looking at Mercedes A Class.

    God dammit.
Been saving up for a while in order to buy a "fun/weekend" soft top. Saw an MX5 locally today, poked it, thoroughly checked it over, test drove the arse off of it, all good.
Did the poker face stuff, got some money off, tweaked what the dealer was offering (didn't want free AA etc, got three years free MOT), all set and realised I'd stupidly not looked at the oil. Smelled the filler cap, no burnt toast smells, no sludge, all good. Pulled the dipstick- absolutely bone dry, nothing, not even oil on the very tip of it.
Dealer looked very embarrassed, after all, 2 worth of oil and I'd never have known. Muttered something half hearted about the work shop checking there wasn't any damage etc, but by that time I'd realised I needed to walk away. It was racing green with tan leather fucking seats!! Like a proper sports car and everything!
Gutted. In a first world way, of course.

    Unlucky,

Usually the MX5's are solid as gold but you probably did the right thing walking away.

I know nothing about cars, so the only advice I can give is not to buy at this time of year - I bought mine on a Christmas Eve years back, and sorting out the insurance and MOT during busy Decembers is an absolute ball ache every year.

Can do it all online these days. No need to get to the post office. Near the end of the month: I'm sure lots of dealers have quotas to fill if you're canny!

Funny, but, for the money, there isn't a better handling, better made rear wheel drive sports car. So laugh away fuckface!

Even an old fiat 500 for a girl. Cheap to run, fashionable, lots available, very affordable

I was going to say I'd never have one myself but actually, if I was in the market for a cheap car this is probably what I'd get.

MX5, always a good bet in Gran Turismo!

You did the right thing walking away. There will be others, and they will have oil and everything. Shame, though.
