    I'd look at the Honda

    CR-V SE 1.5 VTEC TURBO AWD MANUAL 7 SEATS
    From £295 a month

    £1,000 Honda Deposit Contribution*

    I've got a new Civic, and I'm really impressed with the drive/quality. Would recommend.

    @SnackPlissken

    I assume that is new?

    I did have a quick look and though it looked a good deal but needed an £8k deposit to make the monthly payments reasonable. I don't have that unfortunately.

    Yeah. But if you go in and ask what your budget is, then they'll work out the best deal for you for the number of years.

    Yeah I know, I want to narrow it down to what is realistic though rather than spend a load of time talking to dealers.

    Could be an option though and you can't usually go wrong with a honda. I'll look into that one in a bit more detail.

    @robc84 I'm not trying to be rude, but this will come across as rude anyway, but the problem you've got is,

    you want the best car for your needs regardless of badge / image

    your wife wants a car that says something about your status

    @retro74

    Not rude at all, that's exactly how it is.

    Ultimately I'm sure it will be what she wants. It's her that drives it 90% of the time and if she won't see sense then so be it :)

    I'll just have to hold my tongue when she complains she can't fit everything in there.

    :)

    It's true she is really annoying. Not sure I can be bothered to fight it to be honest.

    It's going to be really hard not to say something when I am proved right though :)

    @robc84 True. Bit different for me as we have our own cars but my wife is the same to a certain extent, she feels that driving an SUV has a cachet and going back to a hatchback like a Focus will be a step down for her, despite me telling her that a Focus is a better car. She's currently looking for another SUV despite not having enough money to afford one

    I also work with someone that recently bought an Evoque just for the image and wanted to give it back after a month

    I've got no issue with it being an SUV, as the option is minivan and I don't fancy that either myself.

    My issue is, like you say, image over practicality. I would argue that you see loads of land rovers on the roads nowadays so I don't think it really says very much about image other than fitting in with the crowd.

    Just say no one gives a shit that you'd be driving a Land Rover. Now if it was a Merc A Class AMG I would turn my head.

    VW Tiguan Allspace? Better badge than the Skoda to keep the wife happy and it's lower depreciation should put it in your price range if you're leasing or buying on PCP.

    Think it's best if Rob trades in the wife. Some lovely new models out at the moment.

    @sport

    My issue, once again, is budget ;)

    Don't think I'd get much for trade in either.

    Wife management - just explain that if you buy a cheaper, more roomy car, you'll be able to take her on a holiday every 3 months with the money you've saved.

    @robc84 dude you're doomed....

    In other car news, cheapest Tesla Model 3 comes in at £38,950+ after the government incentive which takes it over the £40,000 VED additional premium barrier so £320 road tax / year for 5 years, arses.

    I realise they're ubiquitous, along with the aforementioned A4s and BMW 3 series but I'd feel (slightly) less of a cock with a Jag badge.

    Am I deficient in my thinking?
    Merc C class is lovely to drive. Nicer than a 3 series imo.
    I'm sure they are but I despise that 'floating ipad' screen they have.

    Or get a Land Rover key shell and put the Kia transponder inside that so she thinks she's all Cheshire

    @robc84 youíll get what youíre told to get. Men donít really give a shit one way or the other and wonít make a fuss in these situations

    However if you came home with a Skoda for the family car youíd be in the dog house for a good while

    Thatís just the way it is in most households!
