Registered 18 years agoYeah, Picasa is pretty good. GIMP is a free rip-off of Photoshop. I've only fiddled with it a little, but it's got a lot of Photoshop's features, but isn't quite as intuitive. -
Photoshop elements is pretty novice friendly. They give it away with printers and scanners and such so should be freely avaliable to download in the right places.
From that its pretty easy to move onto a full version of photoshop and fiddle with the more advanced stuff. -

Definitely Picassa as it’s a really easy hosting tool as well. -

Tis 'cheap' though as requested (well compared to Photoshop anyway). -

Registered 14 years agoSome good suggestions on here. I have been using online tool Pixlr on my netbook for simple things and to save installing resources crushing software.
Anyone know a good paid for photoshop alternative for MAC that has similar features? Something around £50? -

Picasa is a great wee program. It also does a nice job of organising your photos. -

There is also a Picasa plugin for Facebook that lets you upload photos without having to do any resizing. Saves loads of time when you have tons of photos. -

Registered 19 years agoGIMP is excellent, and much more up to date at a regular basis now compared to the olden days of 8 years ago or so when the absolute latest version was always only on linux.
It's intuitive in that you need to be familiar with a mouse and clicking; it's not MS Office. -
