FWIW I believe you and I can kind of understand why its taken so long.

I assume you're still pretty young and at that age you want to establish some autonomy from your parents and show you can sort stuff out yourself, but at the same time you don't have the experience of dealing with big organisations and how sometimes you really just need to kick up a massive fuss.

This neatly sums it up for me. Usually in situations like this there's a friendly tutor or a sympathetic, experienced member of the admin staff who'd do a lot of the running to sort things out.

    2) At the computing help desk I asked to see the register, which I finally got to see after a lot of complaining. Success! She confirmed that I went to the classes. She then told me to go to my main tutor to discuss the situation. I told her that I've seen him twice and there's no way he's going to change his decision. She basically shrugged and said she couldn't do anything else.

From reading some of your later comments, you seem resigned to the situation you've unfortunately found yourself in and just want some recompense at this stage.

However, since I assume this main tutor of yours takes this core module that you were failed on, I would still go back to him to assert that you have confirmed that you'd attended the classes and it was an admin error.

I've known tutors who were complete hard-asses, yet, once they realise they're not just dealing with some waster, actually go out of their way to help.

Still, unis can be pretty inflexible on some things and it may be too late to sort the mess out for this term but it can do no harm to have him on your side, backed up by your crimefighting/part-time solicitor father.

Hm! I notice that P_I hasn't posted in some time. Has he gone to see his main tutor perchance?

The moral lesson learnt here is - don't mess with the bull, you'll get the horns.

Sounds interesting, I'll have a look at that later.

He got booted and now works in animal porn as a fluffer. He still posts here now and then but will deny all knowledge of his fledgling movie career if asked.

    :)

It's just plain rude to leave it unresolved like this though!

Kind of reminds me of when my wife was trying to improve her English (she is Chinese). She kept saying weird incoherent things and getting upset when I pointed out she was talking nonsense. She was using Chinese / English text books and they were all terrible and riddled with errors.

As her English level was already pretty good I got her to throw the text books away and bought her loads of children’s and young teens books. She essentially improved her English by reading the Famous Five instead of the rubbish that Lily is promoting. It did however have the side effect of introducing her to some long forgotten 1950s sayings.

Has she subsequently developed an insatiable appetite for tongue sandwiches and lashings and lashings of dandelion and burdock?

I was living over there once.

One of the engineers was taking an english test to get some sort of certificate.

For a laugh the rest of them decided that I should do the test to see what results I got. It was basically a long, fairly badly written passage with some questions at the end to test comprehension.

I failed the test because all the questions were ambiguous, and it was pretty much impossible from the passage to figure out what the answer should be.

They were well pleased that I failed the test and I got about 6 months worth of piss taking after that. Later I found out the correct solution to pass the test.
