Episode was strongest as a whole, though again he is doing old material which is a bit of a shame.

Haha, felt a bit uncomfortable there as Stewart Lee is looking directly at me reminding me that i'm watching his programme on a massive tv that I bought on credit.

    Superb one tonight.

Yeah, I liked the "Not like sweets nowadays, with their knives and aids" line too. But overall that sequence went on way too long for me - just like the similar sequence he did in the first ep.

There were some amusing moments in that episode - plenty enough to keep me watching the show but kinda like people were saying above, he feels like he picks a few points and then labours them to the point where they're not funny anymore. I was quite looking forward to his comments on the financial crisis but it didn't really feel like he did anything but skim across the surface of the issue.

Edit: Also where are the Armando Iannucci interviews? I found the first one on the Beeb site but I've not seen any since then?

this last episode was the best so far, but that might be due to the presence of Kevin Eldon, who scares me shitless, and it's always nice to see Arthur Brown again.

Stewart Lee's stand up is half poetry IMO, it has a lyrical repetitiveness

/is on a catch up tv marathon.

I liked this week too. I'll never agree with the "goes on too long" argument; I find those bits the best, I still find myself chuckling about the rappers.

The interviews with Armando are better than the half hour broadcast I found, it's almost as if the show is a set up for them as the punchline.

If you were over 30 then it would be funny. If you don't have the frame of reference then it wasn't for you.

Bugger. I'm over 30 and I didn't find it funny.

    Now what do I do?

I put this on in the background rather than pay it my full attention, which is probably a mistake but the first two were crap, even if recently it's been better.

But the sketch sections are still completely extraneous. You usually can't get away with telling the same joke with slightly different words right after just telling it, something that he took the piss out of (American comics) in this show. They just don't work. And this week it was a tad hypocritical.

As for the Bill Hicks bit, I suspect I'm not familiar with the subtext, but it just makes everyone, including Stew, look a bit of a dick.
  • Deleted user 14 April 2009 08:02:16
Probably the episode that spoke to me most, but then I took comedy at university so I know what he's going on about.
  • Deleted user 14 April 2009 09:06:03
I loved the Bill Hicks parody. Loved it. Best episode so far, properly made me chuckle. Especially as I knew there's be someone on here with sand in their vagina about it.

Got it spot on, if you take off your rose-tinted specs.

Absolutely, I've got a mate who absolutely idolises Bill Hicks, and the Letterman bit just rubbed that little bit more salt into his already broken and bleeding soul :D

This week's was funnier for me simply because I hadn't seen the material already on DVD.
I do enjoy his snide remarks, he always delivers them with suitable contempt, e.g. Jack Dee's sitcom.

If there was a point to his five minute, 70s-style apple sketch then it went over my head.
Was it just a tribute or was he having a go at Monty Python's laborious lists and forced anarchy to end tediously indulgent sketches.
