    So, the DSi shop.

What the chances of GBA games being made available?

And what are the chances of those of us (i.e. me) with large GBA game collections being able to "trade in" for an electronic copy?

I am weighing up trading in my DS Lite for a DSi and whether my GBA micro is worth it as being the only way of playing my GBA collection.

I think the DSi is perhaps Nintendo's turn at addressing the phasing out of hard media (carts), assuming they crack the encryption problem. The iPhone is a successful model, there are rumours about the PSP4000 ditching UMD. Maybe this is the way forward.

I cannot see how they would do a "trade up" scheme, ever, but am intrigued about the idea of buying back catalogue GBA games via the DSi shop, in particular hard to find games.

    Opinions?

Yeah, handheld virtual console would be great. I imagine it'd follow the Wii model though so no trade-ins.

Pretty sure we'll see a handheld virtual console all the way back to the Gameboy at some point. Plus Gamegear, maybe the Wonderswan (Japan) and some of the handheld PC-Engines. An untapped goldmine right there.

Gameboy for certain. Although expect Nintendo's drip feeding of games nobody actually wants rather than access all areas. As for trading up. Forget it. Ninty say you fuck off and pay more money. I can also see them making you rebuy stuff you own on VC for the DSI.

They should follow the PSN model and allow you to do multiple installs as long as you own the machines.

Yeah trading up would be such a good model for us who have shelled out over the years, but not for the big N.

S'pose it's like the VHS -> DVD -> Bluray argument. You can't trade in those of course; shame software cannot be different.

They should follow the PSN model and allow you to do multiple installs as long as you own the machines.

But it's not a trade up tho is it? (I'm not a PSP/PS3 owner.)

You're (kind of) talking to a bunch of gamers here. We've been rebuying the same games for the last 20 years. Of course we're mugs! :oD

True PS3/PSP don't trade up but the PS3 is backward compatible right down to the marrow of PSX, or at least the earlier models were. I missed the issue where they kicked that idea soley in favor of PSN.

But back to the issue at hand, as Nintendo has in fact started a preliminary re-release of older titles via 'ye olde DSi shoppe', I personally cannot wait until they get to the Meat of it. WE WILL HANDLE THIS OPPRESSION NO LONGER... so like.. get on with it.
