I always have to stop and think when I'm about to write ocassion, occassion, occasion? Also, not that I can't spell it, but I always type qualty wrong, which is disconcerting as I work in qualtiy conformance. |

Registered 16 years agoDefinitely. No idea why, I have to spell check that every time. I'm also guilty of making up words then not spelling them right, despite there not being a right way to spell them. -

I was tought that the full rhyme was:
"'I' before 'E' except after 'C', or if the sound is an 'ay' as in 'neighbour' and 'weigh'."

I can never remember how to spell the word persific, pursfic, persphic, procific? As in "To be p.."
I HATE THAT WORD AND IT MAKES ME WANT TO SMASH MY KEYBOARD OVER MY HEAD.
helps if you get the actually know what the first letter is.....specific
Ah, that explains why the spell checker could never find the right correction!
I always think it begins with a P because here in the West Midlands everyone pronounces it "pur-cific". -

Science is also contrary to that rule.
I was taught it as "I before E except after C, except when the sound isn't 'eee'", which allows for Science and Deity and Society and Beige and Weight and Height and Sovereign and the rest. So far the only word I've come across contradicting that rule is Seize. -
